An ocean swell reveals the hidden world of a healthy and robust Opal Reef on the Great BarrierReef off Port Douglas in Queensland Australia. As you read this the Great Barrier Reef is experiencing back to back years of unprecedented coral bleaching. This process happens when warmer than normal water stresses living coral polyps causing them to lose their symbiotic algae and turn white. After a bleaching event some corals can recover and others will die and become algae covered. We will be returning to the Great Barrier in May for @natgeo to visually explore the impacts of climate change on coral reef systems and to revisit this very site to document the changes in the reef system in a warming sea. #ocean #greatbarrierreef #beauty #australia #climatechange for #moreocean - Photo by @daviddoubilet - #girl #sunset #auto #iphone7 #likeforlike #f4f #view #views #sunset #sunrise #followforfollow #nature #club #sky #money #mircedez #moubily #autos4 #views #autoscommunity #autosvids #souqona #3srinet #uae_madwhips #hsoukar #natviews ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am thinking about the Arctic and all the species that call it home. I am so excited to be heading back to Svalbard to keep shining a light on the effects of climate change on the ecosystem. Species like orcas are resilient and smart and we must work as hard as we can to protect their habitat and food source. This project took our team to the northernmost human settlement in Greenland, the village of Qaanaak. The purpose of the expedition was to document the places in the Arctic where ice will disappear last, like the Thule region of Greenland, where I photographed this husky. In 20 years or less, much of the Arctic will be completely devoid of ice and the vast sea ice highways that the Inuit use to travel with their dogs will be gone forever. When that day comes, the last hunters of the north will no longer be able to access the edge of the sea, where today, with the help of their huskies, they are still able to hunt for wild food. So incredible! Can we be ocean photographers for a living? 😍 #Repost @natgeo (@get_repost ) ・・・ Photo by @daviddoubilet A blizzard of fish fill the sea at Verde Island Passage, Philippines. Thousands of orange anthias rise into the strong currents to feed on zooplankton. Verde Island passage is one the most productive ecosystems in the world and is considered by some scientist to be the "center of the center of marine shorefish biodiversity". It also the one of the busiest sea lanes in the Philippines leading to the Port of Manila. Mesmerizing... 🐡 #Repost @natgeo (@get_repost ) ・・・ Video @jenniferhayesig // A titan triggerfish rises from its nest to tell our team to move along in Anilao Philippines. Titans aggressively defend their nests from raiding fish, eels and passing divers. Once we saw that this wonderful creature had eggs to protect we moved on to stop distracting her from the nest. If you watch closely this titan returns to the nest and lays flat across it to hide it from hoards of hungry wrasse. As this was happening the male, out of frame, swam wide circles several feet above us. Gece avlanan bir ahtapot, ev gibi kullandığı deniz kabuğunun üzerinde dinleniyor. #repost from @natgeo 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 @jenniferhayesig // An octopus hunting at night rests for a moment on a shell that it uses as shelter on a barren sand bottom in Anilao Philippines. When the octopus moves it picks up its shell and brings it along like a mobile home. There is very little structure to provide cover on this soft sediment substrate so any piece of wood, shell, debris becomes valuable habitat that these octopus collect, carry and defend. It is always time well spent watching these intelligent creative creatures If you look very very close you will see a chain salp slowly moving through the night sea on the right side of the frame. " Repost @natgeo
