// Lucky strike. This was the first shot on location for the @natgeochannel #Explorer
show "The Yellow Brick Road" which airs tonight at 10pm EST /9 Central! The show exposes the true path of conflict gold that is used for our jewelry, our phones and computers. Our journey started here in Goma and went on to visit warlords deep in the jungle of North Kivu as well as government certified 'conflict free' gold mines and other parts of the supply chain. In this particular location we saw the drastic differences in wealth in the community generated from the gold and other minerals. The official stats in how much gold comes out of North Kivu is zero, but we filmed quite the opposite. There is a lot to this important story, watch the show tonight night to find out more! #conflictgold #DRC #congo

we are shining the spotlight on the rusty-spotted genet, which is perhaps the least-known pollinator. This cat-like carnivore is from Sub-Saharan Africa and is primarily a meat eater, but is also known to frequent nectar-laden flowers for a sweet treat after a big meal. Due to its large home range, the genet can transport pollen on its fur to other nectar-bearing plants of the same species. Researchers don't think it frequents flowers as often as other pollinators, but its ability to move pollen around makes it valuable in fertilizing plant species over great distances. In other words, the rusty-spotted genet helps save the forest!

A wild peacock displaying in Yala National Park, Sri Lanka. Despite his incredible tail fan, the peahens just didn't seem interested. It's amazing to think that this male will shed and a grow a new fan each year, all in the name of reproduction! Shot during a leopard assignment for @natgeo
to see a closeup and for other wildlife adventures!
A juvenile trevally seeks cover in a night sea as it rides a drifting leaf. Our "black water" team guided by Scott Gutsy Tuason, lowered a scaffold of light into the dark currents in a deep channel off Moalboal, Philippines and waited to see what might come to investigate. Many creatures from the depths rise to feed at night, some are attracted by the light, others liked this little trevally were just passersby trying not to be noticed by predators. His magic carpet leaf passed through our lights quickly back into the safety of the dark.

on assignment in the Peruvian Amazon. Huni Kuin girls patiently await breakfast in the community of Curanjillo near Peru’s Alto Purús National Park. Contacted by missionaries in the mid-1900’s, the Huni Kuin live in small villages in the Peru—Brazil borderlands and survive mainly on subsistence hunting, fishing and tending small gardens. Peccary, tapir, monkeys and giant catfish provide a protein-rich diet, but living in the most remote part of the Amazon if not the world has its challenges. Access to medicine, proper schooling and other government services is limited. Plus, they reluctantly share the forest with still-isolated tribes who raid the Huni Kuin’s gardens and occasionally villages during their seasonal migrations.

in the United States is the kick-off of the season for National Parks, especially in higher altitudes where many of the roads have been covered in snow. It's a time where these roads are re-opened and the season for visitors from all around the world begins. @yellowstonenps

(Robbie Shone) - The Monte Corona (Crown Mountain) lava tube system on the Canary island of Lanzarote is one of the world’s classic lava tubes. This lava tube was formed during the eruptions of Monte Corona volcano some 3,000 - 4,500 years ago. Pictured here, a cave explorer wades through one of the many long lakes deep inside Cueva Los Lagos lava tube. Although surface temperatures are stiflingly hot on this Spanish Canary island, the water is icy cold and comes as quite a shock.
