"What keeps us coming back regularly to restore native habitat? Volunteers like 12 year old JayDe! At Tuesday’s Park Champions habitat restoration event in Fort Ord Dunes State Park, Jay De let slip that for his 12th birthday he wanted to do something to help the environment. So he scoured the internet for an event he could attend. When he saw that Park Champions was restoring habitat on his birthday, and that the minimum age was 12 years old, he immediately signed up with his mom to attend! JayDe shared this story while receiving an honorary Park Champions pin during our snack break. All of the volunteers attending, young and old, were impressed by Jay De’s commitment to the environment, and heartened by this young person’s enthusiasm and hard work. The prospects for our earth’s future health seem brighter knowing that there are committed young people like Jay De to protect it!"-John Salcido, Park Champions Core Leader
