The humpback whale was once an endangered species. It was so close to extinction that many said: "let it go." However, those who believed in the power of hope, action, and policy wouldn't let up. Activists stood up for this whale. Governments made changes. Politicians listened to their constituents. People didn't give up. They fought. Today the humpback is on the rebound and in healthy numbers. I am currently on a @Sea_Legacy expedition, with @CristinaMittermeier , @_tomconlin , and, @susan_bird_ in the Azores to document blue whales. The Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal, in the mid-Atlantic Ocean, that is home to one of the highest concentrations of megafauna in the world.
