Today’s Mantique is the late John Kerr, born on this day in 1931. An accomplished stage actor, he parlayed his Tony-winning success on Broadway in the gay-themed “Tea and Sympathy” (1953) into reprising the starring role in the watered down 1956 film adaptation. His biggest role was in the film “South Pacific” (1958). He made many other movie and TV appearances, including a recurring role on “The Streets of San Francisco” in the ‘70s before focusing on a career as a lawyer. The twice-married Kerr died in 2013.
