What does mint pig mean.. the question was asked by one of the “sprint pig” fans on Saturday night.
It all began with Mark Donegan, The man who introduced me to speedway. We call him “pappy”. When I was a young junior driver, my dad would say....is the pig washed, does the pig need fixing, have you got the pig ready, is the pig on the trailer, put the pig away in the shed, that thing runs like a pig, that race car looks like a pig, what’s wrong with the pig, the pigs got a flat tyre, he would always refer to our race cars as “pigs”. A few years later, down at the race track, he would ask, how can we get this pig goin faster, is the pig handling ok. My response was...
“the pigs mint dad”
That’s how we/he came up with “the mint pig” a cortina that was once a street stock turned into a 308 holden powered sports sedan. #308
Once Connor Donegan was old enough to race he had no choice, his car was called “the mint piglet” #12
Max Donegan was next in his Race car “the pig wagon” #79
Soooooo.... when a sprintcar is thrown in, it had to be called “the sprint pig” #75
Some would call this a love story
