ALBANY, N.Y. — A woman who claims hidden-camera footage of her in a hotel shower was posted on a dozen pornographic web sites by someone who tried to extort her filed a $100 million lawsuit. The Chicago resident, identified only as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, alleges the nude video was taken at a downtown Albany Hampton Inn and Suites in July 2015 while she was taking the New York bar exam. The lawsuit filed Friday names the hotel's owners and the Hilton chain as defendants. https://goo.gl/B8FPYr #StopCyberCrime #SpeakNow #EndtheSilence #TogetherWeCan #50ShadesOfSilence  #extortion Connect with us at https://www.50shadesofsilence.com/
Two women were victims of what has become known as cyber flashing, a growing trend of technology-enabled sexual harassment. It has become so common that two lawmakers introduced a City Council bill on Wednesday to explicitly make it a crime, punishable by a $1,000 fine or up to a year in jail. The bill would add language to the city code that would make it “unlawful for a person, with the intent to harass, annoy or alarm another person, to send by electronic device an unsolicited intimate image.” One of the first news reports of cyber flashing was in London in 2015, when a female commuter told the British Transport Police that she had received lewd photos on her phone via AirDrop as she traveled to work. Since then, people in New York, Toronto and other cities have written articles, tweeted and posted on Facebook and Instagram about how explicit pictures have showed up on their phones, often while on crowded public transportation. https://goo.gl/oZPBSp #OnlineAbuse #CyberFlashing #AirDrop #StopCyberCrime #SpeakNow #EndtheSilence #TogetherWeCan #50ShadesOfSilence Connect with us at https://www.50shadesofsilence.com/

First lady Melania Trump talked about what she teaches 12-year-old son, Barron about cyberbullying, noting it’s important to treat people with “respect and kindness” on social media ― sometimes. She expected to face some backlash over her Be Best initiative, a wide-ranging campaign focused on promoting well-being, combatting opioid addiction and curbing cyberbullying. Critics have been quick to point out the irony of her project, considering the president’s own social media habits. https://goo.gl/jswKFq #OnlineAbuse #CyberHarassment #CyberBullying #StopCyberCrime #SpeakNow #EndtheSilence #TogetherWeCan #50ShadesOfSilence Connect with us at https://www.50shadesofsilence.com/
Due to the high online activity of teens on social media, a majority of them have experienced #cyberbullying first-hand or witnessed friends being the victim. In 2018, 90% of teens report having a smartphone, a 22% increase from 2014-2015! And nearly half say they are online constantly. With high online activity, teens either witness cyberbullying, are a victim of it, or become a perpetrator. I can still remember the first conversation Lori Jones and I had about the incredible set of circumstances that impacted our lives. Model and socialite, Judith Heard, was asked to pay $3,000 in blackmail money to stop her stolen nude selfies being published online but didn't pay up. Nude photos of Heard were leaked online again,  followed by a warrant for her arrest. Among those arrested were women who say their nude pictures and sex tapes were shared online without their consent, police spokesperson Patrick Onnyango told CNN, detailing three separate cases, including Heard's. Lindsey Kukunda, founder of Not Your Body, an online feminist website, says that the implementation of the 2014 Anti-Pornography Act has been more focused on "traumatising women" than protecting them. “REVENGE PORN” LAW SURVIVES CONSTITUTIONAL CHALLENGE IN VERMONT By Nicole McLemore Last month, the Vermont Supreme Court upheld the state’s revenge porn law against a First Amendment challenge in State v. VanBuren. While the Court declined to classify revenge porn as a new category of speech excluded from First Amendment protection, it acknowledged that “extreme invasion[s] of privacy” are likely unprotected by the First Amendment. Nonconsensual pornography, commonly known as “revenge porn,” is the disclosure of sexually explicit images or video without consent from the person depicted. Vermont’s statute criminalizes the knowing disclosure of images depicting an identifiable person who is nude or engaging in sexual conduct, without that person’s consent and with the intent to harm, harass, intimidate, threaten, or coerce the person depicted. The disclosure must also cause a reasonable person to suffer harm. While the law provides some recourse for victims, this recourse is substantially limited by the law’s “intent to cause harm” provision, making clear that its ruling was based on interpreting the statute as a privacy regulation. Regardless of the outcome on that point, Vermont’s decision is a powerful recognition that non-consensual pornography is an invasion of privacy that can be regulated consistent with the First Amendment. Salem witch hysteria gets a Maga makeover in Sam Levinson’s satirical thriller about digital privacy and the patriarchy. The movie’s emotional core is the targeted group of high-school friends including Lily (Odessa Young), whose messed-up relationship with the creepy older guy who once employed her as a babysitter is exposed. By being pressured into sexting, she has created a trove of hackable evidence on her smartphone that somehow incriminates her, not him. There’s one thing which Assassination Nation does confront, a very important part of contemporary life that most cinema conspires to ignore: the internet and how lives are lived online. It took me a minute to wrap my head around this weekend. I spent the last few days volunteering my time to people and organizations I care about. Giving my time to help others. Then yesterday we hosted the first All For Her: Educate, Motivate, Inspire in Washington County. The goal was to inspire, educate and motivate people and that it did. But I can’t put into words what an impact it made on me. Talking about the pressures of being a woman. How we can make changes to create a better place for the younger generations. Empower each other, to be real, you don’t have to be perfect, to give to others. We had the pleasure of listening to keynote speaker Darieth Chisolm talk on her very personal story #50shadesofsilence and listen to how she was able to turn a very horrific situation into a way to help others. We were able to support important organizations like Dress for Success Pittsburgh and several others. Life isn’t about taking, it’s about giving back. It’s about taking time to help someone else. We couldn’t have done this without the support of our amazing sponsors including our naming right sponsor, the Washington Health System. Stephanie-Nick Wagoner and her team are in a word, the best. There for every step of the way, making an impact on our community. A huge thanks to my girl Laural Gibbs Ziemba for her continued passion to make our community a better one. We couldn’t have done the Finding Her panel without you! I love you both and Steph with all my heart! And to Camille Kobrys and the incredible staff at the DoubleTree Pittsburgh Meadow Lands for making sure everything was perfect, I can't say enough. My sincerest thanks! To my girl, Francesca Underwood, Katie Mavrich Green and our O-R team, thank you is not enough for the countless hours you put to make the magazine perfect and the event what it was. I could go on and on but to the sponsors, artisans, businesses, my family and our awesome community, THANK YOU! We made a difference this weekend and it is JUST the start. Here are just a few pics of this special day. From the bottom of my heart, all my love and thanks. #WEmadeadifference #allforher
Child rights activists, maintain that an online portal such as cybercrime.gov.in would assist victims from seeking justice. Experts also feel that this could help in curbing the number of hits secured by child pornographic videos in the Indian sub-continent. The web portal will allow victims or complainants to report cyber crime. At present this portal caters to complaints pertaining to online Child Pornography (CP)-Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) or sexually explicit content such as Rape/Gang Rape (CP/RGR) content. Brooke Garlow of Cornwall, Ont., says inaction by local police on her revenge porn complaint made things worse. Suzie Dunn — a part-time law professor at the University of Ottawa, who has done extensive research into revenge porn — says that sort of delay is not unusual police still seem to prioritize physical crimes over those committed online. Garlow said she sent Facebook a message describing the situation, but heard nothing back. A Facebook spokesperson said Facebook created tools specifically designed to prevent and protect against the sharing of non-consensual intimate images that is accessible by users and non-users of the platform. Those tools do not mention images sent via Facebook Messenger. Miss UniVen 2019 was called ugly and too dark to be a beauty queen while Mr UniVen was deemed too short to hold the title. Vinolia Masera, a Campaign Manager said that there are no rules with regards to using social media platforms. “Social media is a platform for people to express themselves freely and share whatever content that they want. As long as the content is not of violent, disturbing or pornographic nature as the sites will ban the content. In some instances, unfortunately, the content does circulate too fast and causes great damage that even having it pulled down from the web will not restore one’s reputation or dignity. Users are allowed to post any other content, however, in today’s time people do post offensive content and justify it as having freedom of expression, little do they know that they actually can get on the wrong side of the law as the internet is a very wide platform and nothing is really censored or private,” she explained. Police say parents can help when dealing with #revengeporn Lieutenant David Allard, Chief of Detectives with Beckley Police Department, said people should be aware when sending explicit photos. People may feel that it's really harmless to send a picture of themselves to a significant other, but they don't realize, that there is no guaranty that it stays with the recipient. The 85-page paper, leaked by a Google employee, claims that cyber harassment, racism and people venting their frustrations are 'eroding' free speech online. The leaked Google documents suggest that the tech giant wants increased censorship of the internet and believes other internet firms should police debate online. Although people have long been racist, sexist and hateful in many other ways, they weren't empowered by the internet to recklessly express their views with abandon. The research includes recommendations on how best to police content and organise online comment sections, such as guidelines on how to behave and a different way to organise search results that identify contentious search results. #Cyberharassment From petty name-calling to more threatening behavior, harassment is an unwelcome component of life online for all too many users. The proliferation of smartphones and the rise of social media has transformed where, when and how bullying takes place. Pew Research Center survey finds that 59% of U.S. teens have personally experienced at least one of six types of abusive online behaviors which include: offensive name-calling, physical threats, spreading of false rumors, having explicit images of them shared without their consent, receiving explicit images they didn’t ask for, or having someone other than a parent constantly ask where they are, who they’re with, or what they’re doing. Majorities of young people think key groups, such as teachers, social media companies and politicians are failing at tackling this issue. By contrast, teens have a more positive assessment of the way parents are addressing #cyberbullying . A 2016 Government Accountability Office report identified more than 40 apps that can secretly track phone activity. The spyware installed runs in the background invisible to the user. "Harper" left her husband two years ago and towards the end of their relationship she says he secretly installed a software on her phone that tracked her location, read her text messages and recorded her calls. He installed a device on her vehicle to track her whereabouts. The number of stalking apps is going up. And as smart devices in homes become more common, abusers have even more ways to control their spouses with technology. When we met at the World Woman Summit (11-12 October, 2018) last year, she made the commitment then, that we would bring lawmakers, legislators, school administrators, teacher, parents and community leaders together and that we did! Thank you to the panel members and to those who came. #TogetherWeCan #EndTheSilence #UseYourVoice #50ShadesofSilence #OurTimeIsNow2018 @metrowestwomen @50_shadesofsilence

A recent NSPCC survey of 40,000 young people revealed an average of one in 50 school children had sent a nude or semi-nude image to an adult. “The lack of adequate protections on social networks has given offenders all too easy access to children to target and abuse.” #StopCyberCrime #SpeakNow #EndtheSilence #TogetherWeCan #50ShadesOfSilence Connect with us at https://www.50shadesofsilence.com https://goo.gl/LZqpxk

#50shadesofsilence Education in cyber abuse and human trafficking today.
Today we were educated on digital abuse and human trafficking, the lack of federal laws to protect us from cyber abuse and what we can do to help push for those laws. Please visit Darieth Chisolm at 50shadesofsilence to sign a petition to present to federal lawmakers. #50shadesofsilence
The prevalence of cyber bullying could be contributing to a sharp rise in teenage suicides. This is outrageous and it just breaks my heart BUT we can do something! It comes after a report revealed there had been a 67% increase in teenage suicides in England and Wales between 2010 and 2017 which saw 187 under 19 years old take their own lives last year. (Birmingham Live, Sep 2018) September 9 – 15 is the National Suicide Prevention Week and my friends at American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) have lined up week-long activities to observe the occasion. Let us join them in their mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. https://afsp.org/campaigns/national-suicide-prevention-week-2018/ Like and share this post to spread awareness. Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party, Theresa May, orders Facebook and Twitter to curb 'vile' online violence and abuse against women. The Prime minister demanded action over 'deeply worrying' rise in online harassment of women at G7 summit. With the increasing number of victims, it is good to see leaders support campaigns against online violence. The cases of online harassment are not decreasing and these online "avengers" think what they are doing is serving justice, but in fact the opposite is true. An important reason why the victims of cyber violence find it so unbearable is because it is difficult for them to defend their rights if they cannot identify their persecutors.
