Have you ever tried yoga? A year ago I would have scrunched my nose and told you “no thanks!”. I have always been athletic & thought I needed to do some type of cardio & weights for it to be a “real” workout. I tried it a couple times…I was quickly reminded how non-flexible I was. Plus, it was so boring…just not for me.
Then last year I injured my shoulder during a workout. I struggled with it for months. I finally resorted to a steroid shot & the Dr. instructed to layoff working out for 3 - 4 weeks. He told me after a week I could do yoga but nothing strenuous. I wanted my shoulder to heal so I didn’t have a choice. But yoga?
After several weeks I was seeing improvement in my shoulder but I just didn’t feel very good overall. I have worked out on a daily basis since 2004, so not working out made me feel sluggish, stiff & wasn’t sleeping very well. I needed to do something but yoga…
I subscribe to an online fitness subscription that allows you to stream hundreds of different workouts. No doubt they would offer yoga but I had never looked. Well as suspected they had a whole library of yoga workouts. I’m thinking seriously…that many people do yoga. While browsing thru my options I find they had recently launched a new yoga program for beginners…it was for 3 weeks & the sessions were all around 30 minutes. Surely I could do that.
I can tell you I didn’t enjoy the first few workouts. No doubt part of it was my mindset but the other was I was so dang stiff. But I hung in there and day by day I saw improvement. Getting back into moving my body made me feel so much better…even if it wasn’t weight training and cardio. The crazy thing was not only did my flexibility increase but I began to see some real muscle definition. By the end of the 3 weeks I can tell you I still wasn’t a huge fan but I gained an appreciation for it that I never had before.
I have since gone back to my normal type workouts of cardio & weight training but…I never stopped yoga. If I hadn’t of hurt my shoulder & given the only option of yoga I would have never seen the benefits it offers. It’s now my Sunday ritual.
What are your thoughts of yoga?
I love being a #momofgirls 💕 even though I’m #50isthenew30 😂 and my girls are grown women, I will always invest myself in caring and supporting and nurturing these lovelies 🙌🏻💯 The beauty of this stage of motherhood is getting cared for and supported and nurtured right back. Love them all so much!!!
