This week in 1973, glam rock group The Sweet released their debut album in America "The Sweet" featuring the hit single "Little Willy". Fun Fact: Despite this being their first American album, it was actually a compilation of songs from their UK 1971 album along with some new tracks.
"'After All (The Dead)' was an amalgamation of geezers stuff and mine. Geezer put one of the riffs in that song, which I thought was really good. He played a bit of guitar on it as well, just the little filly bit. When he played this idea to me, I couldn't quite grasp what he was doing. He started playing it to show me, and I said: ' I can't get this, but you know it. Why don't you play it?' So he did." -tony Iommi

Such an amazing book!🙌
You could really feel what tony goes through chapter through chapter. From his early years trying to get a band going, all the way up to his recent years battling cancer. Really recommend this to everyone.

HANGING UP THE SKATES! Just DJ’d my last public session at Moonlight Rollerway (the place that inspired the pin design in slide 2) this afternoon! It’s been a fun six year run playing plenty of new wave gems and funky jams, with the occasional wild card thrown in — today I threw on some Dead Milkmen and Cocteau Twins. Ended the session with a personal favorite, “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House. One of my friends said it felt like the end of a John Hughes movie, so mission accomplished. 🎶
Big thanks to all my friends who braved the heat to make it out! So many surreal and magical highlights from my time working here, I could honestly fill a book. If you live in Los Angeles and you haven’t visited yet, it’s an absolute must. The buzz of the arcade games, neon lights, quad skate rentals, and smell of snack bar pizza... I will miss it! If you happen to go at the right time with the right DJ, this place is as close to a time machine as you are likely to find. Tell ‘em I sent ya! 👾🍕✨

Ok, yes I know I need to post more than just my Sunday Spotlight, but this week we got something special. Instead of doing a full record this week, we are doing a 45 single. Probably the best 45 single you could have too. It's Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water."
Now, this song actually tells a true story. Deep Purple was in Montruex, Switzerland to record an album in the Montruex Casino. The night before they were going to record, Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention had a concert there. Sure enough, some stupid at the concert fired a flare gun and burned the whole casino to the ground. The title "Smoke on the Water" came from Deep Purple watching smoke from the fire spread of Lake Geneva.
But in full honesty who cares about the lyrics to this song. It's all about that riff. That simple yet mesmerizing guitar riff. My favorite portrayal of the riff is when Beavis and Butt-Head sing it together on the show. I don't know what it is, just that breathy giggling of the guys and the simple "dun dun dun" from them really does the song full justice.
