Thinking about buying a one way plane ticket? A couple of friends of mine were stopped at Kuala Lumpur Airport on their way to the Philippines on a one way ticket and were forced to buy a return before they could fly. There's a couple of things you need to know.
Airline staff at check in can ask to see your return or onward ticket. They can actually deny you boarding if you don't have one. The reason for this is because if there are any problems with immigration when you arrive, for instance if they suspect you plan on staying in the country indefinitely, the airline is responsible for paying to fly you back home. This makes things slightly difficult if you are wanting to travel with no set plans but there are ways around it.
1. Buy a ticket for a cheap refundable onward flight, even if you don't plan on using it. Once you're in the country, simply cancel the ticket to receive your money back (this can take up to 30 days)
2. Train and bus tickets work as proof too. Again, you don't need to actually use them. These tickets tend to cost just a couple of pounds, especially if you're in South East Asia or Latin America.
3. There are websites out there that allow you to 'rent' return tickets as temporary proof of onward travel. I've never done this myself but I have spoken to people who have used these services. Google 'best onward ticket' and take a look for yourself.
Being stopped at check in doesn't happen every time, in fact I've only been asked maybe 4 times in all my trips away. Don't take it personally if it happens to you, it's all about immigration and the airline being comfortable of you leaving your destination by the time your visa runs out 😀

Buddha says: "What we think, we become." And here I am, standing for a photo with those two monks.
When I saw them, they were making selfies and I asked for a shot with them. They were so sweet, pretending to be just as the other teens, but when I went for the photo, I realized they are not and probably they never will be.
The monks stayed next to me, at a respectful distance, and I found them so young and so mature at the same time..
And me staying over there, so wonderstruck and so impressed by the strong will these still just boys have.
They've made an important decision about their lifes and have dedicated their sweetest and youngest years to something that they really believe in with their full heart. And no matter if that decision has been a product of a strong religious belief or an intent to help and relieve their poor families, it still had a powerful impact on me.
I saw their positive minds, their open attitude towards people. I felt them really close and friendly.
Like the goodness has penetrated into their souls and has made a home there.
Now I am happy and thankful for what these monks have given to me - a pice of unforgettable memory, but also a lesson, something deep to think about.. ❤
