We are excited to share some incredible photos on our blog from the Opera House Cup by one of the world's preeminent yachting photographers, Cory Silken @SilkenPhoto.
He says about the race, "It was pretty wet and wild with big breeze this year. The sky was a bit gray, but it still made for some exciting images! It was great to see Gary Jobson at the helm of American Eagle, and certainly the 140’ schooner Columbia was a spectacular sight.” Cory is running an @indiegogo
campaign this month for his book which celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Herreshoff S Class sailboat. Link in bio for the photo album!
Herreshoff S boat Swallow, 1920, was originally based in Marblehead and had numerous names, including Friskie, Clotho, Allons, Entropy, and Mischief. While named Allons, she was owned by Arthur Godfrey (1903-1983), a prominent television entertainer during the 1950's. Her original name, Swallow, was restored in 1983 by Frank McCaffrey, revered S boat shipwright in Newport, RI.
