1912 Cartercar Model R Touring
I have seen TWO CarterCars in my travels, this one at the Tupelo Auto Museum and one at the Gilmore.
CarerCar was the most popular of the friction drive autos. No clutch, no gears, no transmission, no driveshaft, no universal joint.
The paper fiber rims had to be replaced at 40,000 miles and that service was half the cost of grease packing a regular transmission. GM bought CarterCar and allowed the brand and the friction drive to fade away.
Fall is a great time to VISIT auto museums, head to Tupelo and see this one!
