So, here is part 2 (out of 3) about my talk with Audis head designer Marc Lichte. You can read the beginning in the previous post.
So, I got my answers on the R8. That I can’t share cause there’s an embargo on the information about this car until 24 October. You just have to wait. Then I took up something that many of you don’t like nowadays: the fake exhaust pipes on the latest cars, and he said that this is just the way the market is going and it’s a fashion thing. He said that himself wasn’t a fan of it, but they are just testing it out now, and other board members were pro. But he said ”Don’t worry all the future S and RS will have proper pipes as always”. And then I said ”What about the SQ5?”. Then he smiled at me and said ”I had nothing to do with that car”. Further on, I asked him which is his favorite Audi of all time, and I also told him that I am a lucky owner of a mint RS4 B5. He said that it definitely also was one of his favorite cars. But the one he liked most, was also one that he owned: The Audi GTO Imsa. For those who know what car this is, will definitely go WOW.
We were standing and talking next to the PB E-Tron concept, and he asked me what I thought about it. I said I absolutely loved it, and if Audi will make a new R8 out of this, it would be a huge hit. And then he gave me a smile and a wink ”Who knows maybe we will”.
Then I asked him about why the new cars sound less and less by each generation. I took the RS3 as an example, that even though the current sounds awesome, it sounds less than the pre-facelift and also even less than the first generation. He said that unfortunately this is where the world is going and the regulations and laws get tougher and tougher by each year and the automakers don’t have that much freedom no more.
Then, I said like this: ”Marc. I know you can’t say much about the next thing I’m gonna ask you. But please… Please.. Share something about the cars that we all are waiting for: The new RS6, 7 and RSQ8. Please…anything!” As I said the words RS6, I saw how his face changed into a big big smile… To be continued.
