Halloween is a magnificently brutal, twisted and somewhat shocking direct follow up to the original 1978 classic... and thankfully not a Busta Rhymes in sight! It is masterful in it’s violent resurrection of the boogyman, as it brushes aside all other tales in the series. Our ‘revamped’ Myers has been locked away in an insane asylum, where he has waited... been studied and waited some more... at least until his doctor allows some podcasters to stop by and kick the slasher hornet’s nest.
As central as Myers is, the return of Laurie Strode (and Jamie Lee Curtis) is equally as important, and perhaps even more so, to the success of Halloween 2018. It ads so much more weight and makes Halloween not just a great horror film, but a great movie. Things are more meaningful with Myers after Strode and not just a bunch teens. Jamie Lee is fantastic as a damaged, kick ass grandmother. She is just as good, if not better, than she was in H2O. This Laurie Strode has lived a shattered life since that fateful 1978 Halloween evening, shattered, but not without purpose. She has been preparing, not only herself, but her daughter (#judygreer
) and granddaughter (#AndiMatichak
) for Michael’s return. Myers is still Myers, a silent killing machine, slowly staking victims and dispatching them with brutal indifference. Make no mistake, the kills are horrifically realistic and more violent than ever before. The sound effects are incredibly unsettling. I can’t remember the last time I squirmed in my seat, but the bone crunching, knife squishing, blood gurgling were horribly affective... and the victims pleading not to be killed, man was it terrifying.
Halloween is filled with parallels to the original... similar shots, angles, even characters (plus a couple of easter eggs, Silver Shamrock I’m looking at you). Halloween is worthy, frightening sequel to the iconic original. #halloweenmovie #halloween #michaelmyers #jamieleecurtis #halloween2018 #johncarpenter #horror #reviews #horrormovies #newmovies #horrorjunkie #slasher #slashermovies #blumhouse #scarymovies #entertainmentblog #horrorblog #frontrowflix #redbox #bluray #ondemand #davidgordongreen #moviereview
