Ocean’s 8 is the sequel series to Ocean’s 11, 12, and 13, following Debbie Ocean (Bullock), Daniel Ocean’s sister. Debbie crafts a crew to steal a diamond necklace from Daphne Kluger (Hathaway). I was looking forward to this film, having loved the original Ocean’s movies, and, for the most part, I was let down. The main story beats were nearly identical to Ocean’s 11 and unoriginal. Also, there were tons of cameo scenes that distracted from the movie and took you out of the experience, especially James Gordon. Now, James Gordon Is good at what he does. His show is really entertaining, and, overall, he is really funny, but he does not work in this movie. He doesn’t play a character. He plays himself, and it made the last 20 minuets of the film feel like another one of his skits. Also the main antagonist of the film was nothing compared to Andy Garcia in the original. However, the cast was amazing. Each one of these leading ladies were great in their rolls. There was no weak link in the main cast’s chain. Also the film in itself was really fun. One of the most fun experiences of the year, but a heavily flawed, fun experience. Overall this film was fine, and I’d say check it out if you’re a fan of the series or of the cast.
