I finally had a chance to try the Lobster Ramen @konjiki_ramen
and it was delicious. At $28 for a bowl, it might seem a bit pricey but when you consider the rising price of ramen at other stores (for example, Moxies apparently has a VEGETARIAN ramen for $16 and when you add on pork belly and shrimp, it comes to $26.75!!!) as well as the quality and amount of lobster in the bowl, this lobster ramen seems like quite the deal.
In this ramen bowl, a full lobster tail and claw sit in a rich broth along with sous vide pork chashu, mushrooms, onions, leeks, bell peppers, arugula, and a special thick ramen. I was very impressed with the thick and meaty lobster which had a light springy texture and a fresh sweet flavour. On top of the lobster tail, there was the most amazing house-made lobster cream reduction which had a wonderfully intense tomalley flavour that really helped to highlight the natural sweetness of the lobster. The cream based broth (a blend of red miso with pork bone broth and and lobster oil) was smooth and flavourful and had a deep rich, creamy and earthy flavour that was reminiscent of a lobster bisique but more complex in flavour. As always, the noodles were chewy and bouncy and the leeks and onions paired well with the miso broth. The arugula was a nice touch as it added a herby spiciness to lighten up the earthier broth and the tender red peppers gave the bowl just the perfect amount of sweetness. The only thing I did not love was the pork chashu which did not seem extremely flavourful against the other ingredients. Nonetheless, an excellent bowl of ramen.
The Lobster Ramen is only available on Wednesdays and be forwarned: the Tonkotsu Ramen will not be available on this day as it would be too time intensive to make both the pork bone soup base as well as the lobster broth. So for those die hard Smokey Black Tonkotsu fans (which I definitely am), you'll need to come back on another day for that bowl.
