PSYCHOSPIRITUAL PARENTING ISN’T A FLUFFY, UNICORNS AND RAINBOWS THING! (although I love fluffiness and unicorns and rainbows!) Psychospiritual Parenting when we’re still living in a domination culture, when most of us were brought up in a domination culture and internalised a lot of it,
can be one of the most CHALLENGING THINGS WE EXPERIENCE.
Aiming to see our child’s soul and respond to it, when ours wasn’t full seen. That can be hard.
Aiming to respond without ever using coercion, when we were coerced. That can be challenging!
Aiming to listen to the feelings of frustration and outrage our children have when their will isn’t respected, when our tears and tantrums were judged or shamed. Well, that can be tricky!
Trusting our child’s preferences and callings when ours weren’t, and when we were made to study things we weren’t interested in. That can be painful and hard!
Knowing that our child’s true nature is love, even if she’s hitting or biting, and responding in ways that help her return to her true nature, when we would have been shamed or punished. Extremely challenging, that can be!
Responding compassionately when he says “no”, when our own inner children want to rage about all the times adults said “no” to us. Very challenging at times!
Seeing our child’s true nature in a culture that still sees children as inherently ‘bad’ beings who need to be punished and rewarded into being ‘good’. That can be sooooo hard.
So, no, Psychospiritual Parenting isn’t fluffy.
Meditating on a mountain top for 10 years might seem easy in comparison!
