I have been training people for quite sometime now. And with every passing session, day, week, month they are grasping the conceptual fact that its not about the beginning and the end.
It's really about everything in between and it's always that.
I say this all the time because it's true, A real lasting transformation takes time. I'm talking physical emotional and mental transformation. It takes time. It Took time to get you to that place, so it will take time once you decide to turn it all around.
All the hard work you may put in to get from a to b doesn't matter a thing if you fail to flip that Mental Switch. Theres has to be, at some point a change of mind.
A decision to leave out all the bad habits and ways of thinking that got you to a place you didn't want to be. You need to really make the decision to leave behind the old lifestyle, the old negative self talk, the old putting yourself down and the idea that you are what you see. That old way of thinking tells you 'look what I've become, I'm not happy with this but this is me.' The new way of thinking you must embrace in order to make the true transformation tells you "look what I've become, I'm not happy with this, but this is NOT who i am, i can see my true potential, the real me awaits, the journey starts today, every session counts, every new strength gained, every new skill, every piece of food i eat or drink, every process, every effort, they are what really matters, it starts today, I start today!"
People loose weight all the time, its a simple process that requires some effort. Unfortunately some of these same people put it back on again and remortgage 'Square 1' more times than they'd like and heres the kicker they find as they stand for the 'after picture' which shows some great physical progress, that they feel no happier.
These are the thinkers who focus only on the physical, who Hate every training session, who complain about eating a balanced diet, about living a balanced liftstyle, who don't see it's the journey, not the goal that matters because in the end when the said goal is reached and your mentor/coach/trainer is no more.
Who is gonna save you from yourself?
To begin my journey, I arrived in Mexico City airport. This airport is actually 2250m in the air...which means if you get there from sea level and go for a jog, you will run out of breath pretty fast...so I started popping my Diamox the second I arrived. That and Dramamine, because the combination of traffic, red-eye flights and loco drivers here is enough to make even a yak yack it's lunch. It's the real deal. What should have been a three hour drive to the outfitters lodge took like 7hrs and we had to refill the gas twice!
Anyway, the next day I was quite pleasantly surprised to see the lodge in San Miguel was a very pretty little place, the surrounding view of the city was really neat and the view of the mountain itself was incredible. You will probably notice some light rays cutting across the top, this is actually the edge of the shadow of the mountain being cast onto the countryside! Amazing!! Besides the view, the other climbers in cohort headed to the mountain, at the same time as me, proved to be quite a fun and interesting group of people. A Vegas bar tender, an organic pineapple/coffee farmer from Equadore, a very well traveled mountaineer, a man who seriously reminded me of Clarkson from Top Gear and a number of other fun folk.
I was NOT, however, happy to hear about several climbing reports. Two months ago a couple died on the mountain, the week before I arrived there had been an insane dump of knee deep snow right down to the basecamp in the desert and worst of all, I hear someone else had tried to climb it solo and wasn't able to make it to the top...and this was his second year trying. 😬😬😬😭😭😭 Needless to say "shit got real" pretty fast. What else could I do but I was bide my time, take notes, ask for beta and try not to look like so much of a noob that the outfitters deny me access...🤷🏼♂️ I had a suspicion that the altitude sickness and acclimatization were going to be my biggest issues but I was definitely second guessing myself and considering tying in with a guide and doing the climb sooner...rather than my solo exploit which would allow an extra day. #mountaineering #mountain #climb #climbing #solo #solotravel #adventure #Mexico
