The incredibly beautiful Deer Creek Falls deep within the Grand Canyon. The crystalline waters slice through sandstone and tumble 180 feet into beautiful pools below creating a magically green oasis in the arid Arizona desert. Follow @taylorglenn

The Loop: My favorite oxbow bends quietly amidst those arid puzzles of rock and time. The ancient architect of this landscape, that silvery blue Colorado River, continues to dwindle. Downstream from here it dries up completely and upstream in the Rockies, its levels have hit records low thanks to drought and more straws drinking from it and a changing climate. This weekend was humbling and eye opening. So much destruction and loss, it was and is really unbelievable to see and be a part of. But i was reminded of a few things: Kindness goes a long way-a helping hand, an exchange of empathy, gratitude, a hug or hand shake. Even standing in silence at the disbelief. Not once did I or anyone around me feel alone in the Llano and Colorado River floods. Neighbors helping, working hard to get things back to a working and livable condition. The communities of Kingsland and Marble Falls offering free water and free food to flood victims. It’s sad to me that we can’t constantly live in a state of kindness, regardless of our differences at all times. It was so nice to see it and live in that peace for the weekend and know that it can and hopefully, soon, will happen. My family and I were very lucky compared to others and I am forever grateful for this experience, as sad and surreal as it has all been. Thank you to everyone that has reached out, who helped and who sent their positive thoughts our way.
I’m working today and I just discovered that my shirt is on backwards. Anyway, I wish we were doing this instead. #wildwanderers #wakesurf
Grand Canyon NP ✔ Started Saturday on the South Kaibab trail on the South Rim, forgot to take my dayquil (recovering from my second cold this month...), ran down to the big ol river (Colorado River), crossed two scary suspension bridges and broke the hiking poles out to get back up Bright Angel to the South Rim. Final stats: 5h40m - matched the pace of our 50yo buddy from Flagstaff doing his 50th loop, 17.3mi, 4831ft down and 4812ft up. High fives with our buddy to finish, last mile worst mile as per usual. Done by 2pm with the rest of our weekend left to hit up Flagstaff bouldering gyms. Woopwoop. Will be back for the Rim2Rim when the muscle pain wears off. // #grandcanyon #southkaibab #brightangel #coloradoriver #thegrandcanyon #grandcanyonnationalpark
Holding onto my tourist hat for dear life. It was almost as windy at Horseshoe Bend as it's been in DC the last couple days. 💨
We got to #lasvegas
quite early and had a couple of hours to spare before night time, which is when it all kicks off in #vegas
Once we were all checked into our hotel we decided to go to the #hooverdam
to check out the #amazing
views of the #coloradoriver
As we drove in we couldn’t help but get a picture on the #arizona
Lees ferry marks the one place in hundreds of miles where one can easily reach the Colorado River from both sides, and thus this is where people historically crossed the mighty Colorado via a boat ferry operated by John Doyle Lee. Today a bridge has replaced the ferry, but this location lives on as the launch point for boaters embarking on trips down the grand canyon. Not a bad view down stream at Marble Canyon eh?
I always say that the worst of times brings out the best in people. Our sweet community of the Highland Lakes in the Texas Hill Country suffered catastrophic flooding in the last few days. Izzy Lou and I live on the top of a huge hill and are fine, and so we’ve been trying to help our friends and neighbors. I have seen so much good, light, and love this week and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to see it. So many people we know have lost homes. So many more people we don’t know have. It’s heart breaking, AND... so much beauty has come from this destruction.
I took these photos this week while I’ve been helping. This is just a tiny glimpse of one block in Marble Falls. Homes throughout Marble Falls, Llano, Kingsland, Granite Shoals, Cottonwood Shores, and Horseshoe Bay were effected and/or destroyed.
If you’re local or in Texas and would like to physically help mud out these homes, please let me know and I’ll direct you to the right people. If you’re interested in making donations to relief efforts, I can let you know how to do that, too.
