Getting back to my roots and hitting some decent weight again
Last time I was this strong I was competing as a junior 🤔😂
LIFE ...we aren’t promised tomorrow and it does NOT fire a warning shot.
I seemed to battle the mind most of the day but I made it through and accomplished more than I give myself credit for.
And when look at this all that negative, pessimistic 💩 just goes away...so

Tuesday night fuel: ground turkey cooked in red onions & garlic with bell pepper, cilantro, lime juice, salt & cumin over black rice.
We literally make this every Tuesday and it provides lunch for wifey and I on Wednesday and Thursday.
Cook chopped red onions and garlic for 3 minutes. Add 2 pounds of turkey with salt and cumin to taste. Cook black rice while this process is going.
Once meat is close to done throw in chopped bell pepper. Change up the colors so you can get different nutrients!
After this is fully cooked drain meat mixture and squeeze in the juice of one lime. Mix in chopped cilantro and top over black rice.
Finish it off with some avocado (or a lot of avocado 🥑 😎) and some Cholula sauce or salsa.

I’m over this crazy Oklahoma weather as much as I’m over being sick. 4 days of not working out and I’m ready to be well enough to lift again. However I am resting and listening to my body. Here’s hoping I can get back to it sooner rather than later and I’ll be fueled by discipline!
“Higher reps for weight loss right?” I get asked this a lot, and of course the answer is - it depends.
Both forms of lifting are great for fat loss but for two different reasons - lemme break it down for you.
If I squatted 100kg 10 times, that equals 1000kg for that set
If I squatted 50kg for 20 reps that also = 1000kg.
In terms of overall volume I lifted the exact same amount - and therefore the calorie burn in the same (assuming the amount of time it took to complete the set is the same)
The underlying mechanisms for both styles of training are quite different - with the high weight low rep style using more of the muscle fibre which can give muscles a fuller, denser look - where as the low weight high rep style creating much more metabolic stress (high levels of lactic acid & increase blood flow to the muscle aka the pump)
Is one better than the other?
This depends on a myriad of things - the clients genetic potential, their training age, their technique, their ability to endure discomfort, training preferences, injuries etc.
Personally I like to use both (in myself and with clients) as the variety of stimulus is always welcome for the body to adapt to and keeps training more interesting and engaging
Don’t look back. You’re not going that way. Sometimes in life it’s easy to dwell on the past which makes it difficult to move forward.
But ultimately you have to make the decision to move forward and move forward quickly. Life is short and there’s zero reason to dwell on things you can’t change.
I’ve made enormous mistakes and I’ll make some more. But this is how we grow. This is how we learn. This is how we word towards becoming the most elite version of ourselves.
Focus on the present. Focus on your goals and dreams of the future. There’s absolutely nothing you can do about yesterday.
Don’t look back. You’re not going that way 👊

There is nothing wrong with a barbell shoulder press but if you can get more bang for your buck why wouldn’t you?
Advantages of a dumbbell shoulder press;
1. Minimising the chance of causing a more dominant side.
2. Standing Dumbbell shoulder press has been scientifically proven to activate more of the shoulder than barbell press.

Monday night fuel: salmon, sweet potato and asparagus. Simple and gets the job done.
This is the basic structure of a lot of our meals. Lean protein source, complex carb and a vegetable.
You can always change the seasoning, change up the protein, change up the carb source and change up the veggie.
But the structure is very similar. Keep it simple and avoid over complicating nutrition.
I baked the potatoes at 350 for 1.5 hrs. Fish and asparagus baked at 350 for 25 minutes.
