The woman remained safe during the incident and police have arrested the driver on charges of harassment, said City SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro, who is also the in-charge SSP of South district. Social media users claimed the online cab service the accused driver belonged to is #Uber . Dawn.com has reached out to Uber for a comment. A #Careem spokeswoman said the driver in question was not registered with her company. #DawnToday
The National Bank of Pakistan has approached the Supreme Court with a plea to order constitution of a committee for operating eight sugar mills in Sindh, owned by the Omni Group, to prevent default on payment to sugar cane farmers or banks. A senior counsel of the group said that the crushing season will begin in November and if the mills do not start operation immediately, it will not only hit cane growers but also render the NBP and other banks unable to recover the loans given to the group. #DawnToday
A woman in Islamabad was arrested today for allegedly abusing, threatening and misbehaving with police officials at an entry point to the Diplomatic Enclave after her vehicle, which was missing a number plate, was stopped by police. The incident came to the notice of law enforcement and government officials after a video of the back-and-forth between the woman and police officers went viral on social media on Saturday. The viral video showed the woman furiously yelling, using abusive language and hurling threats at police officials who had stopped her at the checkpoint because her car did not have a number plate. #DawnToday
Polling is underway for by-elections in three national and provincial assemblies constituencies in #Karachi and #Peshawar amidst strict security. Twenty men have been jailed for raping and abusing more than a dozen girls in a northern England town, in what a judge called a “vile and wicked” campaign of exploitation. An #earthquake of moderate intensity was felt in the country's upper and northern parts today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to the Regional Seismic Monitoring Centre, Lahore, the jolts were recorded at an intensity of 5.3 on the Richter scale.
