One competition completed in November and one more to go. I won a gold medal in The Sports Model category last month at the Natural Olympia ages (70-79). Now on to the AAU Universe this Saturday. When your mitochondria are not working properly, you suffer all the symptoms of low energy: fatigue, memory loss, pain, rapid aging, and more. For me, discovering the importance of mitochondria and how to optimize their function was a huge part of my personal healing journey.⠀ ⠀ Mitochondria are key energy sources for our bodies. They are tiny factories housed within our cells that take the foods we eat and the oxygen we breathe and convert them into energy. Each cell holds hundreds or thousands of mitochondria; they are found in greater concentrations in active organs and tissues like the heart, brain, and muscles.⠀ ⠀ There are many things you can do to boost and protect your mitochondria:⠀ 1) Get moving. You might try interval training, which increases the efficiency and function of your mitochondria, and/or strength training, which increases the amount of muscle and the number of mitochondria.⠀ 2) Avoid processed, junk food, sugar and empty calories. Instead eat whole real, colorful plant food—fresh vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, they are full of antioxidants and phytonutrients.⠀ 3) Increase your intake of omega-3 fats to help build your mitochondrial membranes. Be sure to include things like salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, and egg yolks.⠀ 4) Detoxify. Drink plenty of clean water. Keep your bowels moving, at least once or twice a day. Sweat profusely at least three times a week, using a sauna, steam, or a detox bath. Relax deeply every day to get your nervous system in a state of calm, rest, and relaxation.⠀ 5) Take mitochondria protective and energy boosting nutrients such as acetyl-L-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, n-acetyl-cysteine, NADH, D-ribose, resveratrol, and magnesium aspartate.⠀ ⠀ How can you take steps to boost and protect your mitochondria today? So I have my heart rate monitor on this morning to review some new workouts.💪 I decided to track heart rate data for getting my kids ready for school. All parents know this can be a workout! I burned almost 200 calories in an hour, ha. This included waking them up, getting their clothes ready, breakfast, cleaning up, dressed for winter and to the school bus. Most calories likely came from repeating myself. 👀💯🤣
Protein pancakes for an healty breakfast: ❤️1 cup oats. ❤️2 eggs. ❤️1/2 cup egg whites. ❤️4 teaspoons baking powder. ❤️pinch of salt, pinch of cinnamon. ❤️1-2 scoops cinnamon protein powder by @foodspring Mix all the ingredients togheter to have a creamy mixture. Use a no stick pan to cook you pancakes, only two minutes each side! A little follow up from yesterday’s blood sugar post... Glycemic index also known as GI is database that ranks carbohydrates based on their effects on blood sugar levels. It originated to help diabetics help control their blood sugar, over time we have come to realise how having control over this can benefit athletes and everyday gym goers. High GI and low GI and what are they? High GI foods digest at a rapid rate and elevate the blood sugar levels drastically. What foods are classed as high GI? Sugary foods, white bread, white rice, watermelon and so on.... Low GI foods break down much slower and don’t spike the blood sugar levels as aggressively. What foods are classed as low GI? Brown rice, wholewheat pasta, pulses, oats and so on... What effects the GI of a carbohydrate? *Fat and proteins - these both slow down stomach emptying, slowing down digestion results in a much lower peak in blood sugar levels. *Fibre - causes the food to become more viscous and sticky whilst being digested and again slows down the digestion process.
