Happy Black History Month!
Blackface. Apology? No Thank You!
has a very nasty history in America that is a lot more deeply rooted than “entertainment” in #minstrelshows
. Its use within the minstrel show was white supremacy’s way to co-opt and redefine #BlackCulture
in the most menial, stereotypical and mediocre ways that white folks could do it. The sad part about it all is that superb #BlackMusicians
often found themselves playing in minstrel show bands just so that they could make a living as 1.) working musicians, 2.) as husbands and fathers to feed their families. These shows were horrendous and had a global market and audience—more white folks in Europe and #Apartheid
South Africa (and other places, too)!
Because perceived Black Culture has been exported since the 1820s/30s, not a single European fashion house can lay claim to not knowing blackface’s impact. #Prada
was founded in 1913 and #Gucci
in 1921. I won’t wear anything, intentionally, on my back, from a system of folks that has gotten ahead by visciously riding the backs of my People. They knew and they know.
APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED. .
Check out #AfricanAmerican
when you get a chance—he gives white folks their own absurdity by showing what the American world would be like w/o the presence of Black Folks, our many inventions and white folks’ attempt at survival...good luck w/ that. It’s truly brilliant art.
If you wanna see a [beautiful] Black face, check out one with some Black skin from #Alabama #SouthCarolina #Guyana #Senegal #SouthSudan
, etc in some #Fenty #Stunna #uncensored
red lip paint! Now that’s worth watching. #ApologyNotAccepted #HappyBlackHistoryMonth
