When most people imagine the #holidays
, they often envision sitting around a table with extended family. But for #militaryfamilies
, that isn’t always possible. Sometimes we’re separated from family by #distance
and other times because of our service member’s #duty
. That doesn’t mean we miss out on the #festivities
I’ve been living overseas in #Germany
for over two years now. While this will be my third #Thanksgiving
spent far away from #family
, I look back on the past two seasons fondly.
I remember how, last Thanksgiving, I squeezed a room full of friends around two tables and mismatched chairs, a couple of single soldiers peppered into the mix because they had nowhere else to go. We had so much food we didn’t know where to put it. Our elbows bumped together as we laughed, told stories, and stuffed our bellies. The screams and giggles of the kids as they played together after dinner, making special memories of their own. I remember introducing our guests to the #Pennsylvania #whoopiepie
While you may be separated from your usual tradition of celebrating with family this year, don’t forget to keep making those memories. Keep up those traditions. But share them with new friends. #HappyFriendsgiving #happythanksgiving
