Day 2 of the 2018 CROSO Trip to Uganda: (Written by CROSO Board Member, Elsa VanHove)
Today I spent my morning with our partner organization Child Restoration Outreach, seeing the difficult realities of street life in Uganda and learning about the complex issues that bring children to the street. I spent my afternoon with some of our scholars in Mbale at their university campuses, where they proudly showed me their favorite classrooms and campus life (including an impromptu drum circle to get students pumped for upcoming exams). While visiting UCU's business campus, I learned that our new scholar, Brian, is called "Mr. Manager" by one of the administration staff, because Brian's dream is to become the manager of a "big company." When I mentioned what a big goal that was, our scholar Rehemah Namuzungu told me, "Of course! Here we have to dream big." That strikes me as a very good mentality to have, wherever you are at in life.
Also, today Joan told me she wants to continue in her career as a midwife, even though she has learned about other medical fields in her time at school. When I asked her why, she told me, "If you can save the life of the mother and the baby, that's two lives saved. That's every nurse's dream!" Photo 1.
