*NEW POST* In Defense of Vietnam: How to Avoid Backpacker Entitlement
Some major travel bloggers have written some pretty negative "reviews" of Vietnam. But maybe they were being unfair, at best, and ethnocentric, at worst. In this guest essay, Corinne of @bonjourchocolat_ talks about some insights she realized while traveling through Vietnam and how to avoid seeing the country in an unfair negative light. She writes, "I spent five weeks backpacking Vietnam and, well, it was honestly a challenging trip. I encountered scams, pushy touts, overcharging, fake tickets, being laughed at while being ripped off and also having my skin and hair touched by strangers. All of these things were frustrating, but in hindsight, I learned a lot about how to handle myself and how to take things less personally as a traveler. I reflected on how my own behavior and assumptions as a westerner backpacking Vietnam may have influenced my experience..."

2 hours trekking uphill and we were above the clouds... it was a pretty amazing feeling ☁️👟👣 People who live in or near mountain ranges are so lucky to have these kinds of treks & walks on their doorstep 😍⛰ on the way down we passed through a few tribal villages surrounded by beautiful rice terraces. It was fascinating to see and learn about how they live 🌾🐃 Joe was lucky enough to come across the village ‘crazy lady’ who definitely took a liking to him... she showed her affection by grabbing hold of him, shouting with joy in his face for a couple of minutes then slapping his bum as she walked away 😂😂 he wanted to get away but I wanted her to carry on, it was bloomin’ hilarious... don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life 😂😭

Five months, two continents, 15+ beaches, and many life lessons later... I'm home! ✈️ My suitcase is unpacked, my jet lag has almost worn off and it almost feels like just a crazy dream. I've had the time of my life along with the hardest times of my life these past few months, and learned some serious life lessons along the way. 💫

The adorable "Chocolate Hills" of the Philippines, popping up as far as the eye can see. It was quite a hike to get to the top to catch this view, but this gorgeous perspective is worth it. Sometimes it takes a bit of a climb to see the results you want to see. But it's always worth it.
I started my journey doing business online not very long ago, and it's already given me the freedom to travel to see such views whenever I please. If you're looking for a way to do the same, click on the link in my bio, or DM mem to chat about it.

My dad has always raised my brother and I to enjoy nature so today my brother and I went for a nice morning walk/hike/stroll? Lol Not sure what to call it but it was so beautiful. What do you do with your siblings? We also love getting sushi 😛 .
Anyways, getting up early enough for the sun to shine through the trees in such a magical way was worth it. On our way into the forest we saw 2 deer and for a solid 3 min we just looked at each other as I snapped some photos of it. I wondered what it was thinking! It’s really profound that there are so many beautiful creatures on this earth just roaming around doing their thing. .
This isn’t my most flattering photo- legit rolled out of bed and threw some clothes on, so my hair is a mess, no makeup, nail color chipping- I was really just bumming it. The thing is though, when you’re out there enjoying nature and the life that is within it, none of that stuff really matters. I was happy to hear the birds chirp especially the woodpecker pecking, the leaves crinkle, and the streams flow. What a beautiful day it is.

To learn from a variety of places, to ask until you satisfy your desire to learn, to reflect meticulously, to distinguish clearly between truth and lies, to manifest that which you have learnt. – ancient Chinese proverb.
Is anyone else obsessed with learning? I hate not knowing things, so I read and study and watch videos about the weirdest topics. It’s like I get information FOMO 😂 it’s great for things like travel and business, but not so great when I’m three hours down a Wikipedia wormhole about unexplained sounds (pretty creepy, I recommend checking it out). This year I’m going to try learn more about design thinking, cooking and videography. What are your favourite things to learn about, or what Wikipedia topic do you get stuck in?
Did I just spend two hours learning about Chinese proverbs about learning? Yes. Was it a good use of my time? Also yes.
The sun was shining when I got home so I was stoked for my run! Note to self: the sun is a deceptive little trickster. I’m still trying to warm up!! I think I need to move to California where my runs would involve warmth and these views ☀️🌊 Anyone with me?
Lisbon. Wow. 😍 the heart eyes are so real you guys. Got off the plane and bopped into the city for a walk on the water and some incredible food, red wine, and cappuccinos. Just look at this! I might never come back (kidding though, because I’d miss you all) 🌏
Monday: complete. Broke my own ‘no unnecessary expenditure’ rule and indulged in some @nyr_official seaweed & arnica bubble bath and pukka liquorice & cinnamon tea, the latter of which tastes 11/10 wonderfully sweet aka perfect for curbing allll the chocolate cravings. I fell asleep sat upright at 17:30 so it’s time to call it quits and get an early night. 💆🏼♀️💤

Strollin’ through The Shire 🏡 I’ve been dying to come here since the first Lord of the Rings movie came out and it did not disappoint, even in torrential rain! A hobbit’s life is a great life. When can I move in?
