I will admit, I love a good cup of liquid ambition in the morning! Something to look forward to in the morning or afternoon when I have a big list of tasks to tackle. There is just something about sitting in a coffee shop, sipping on somethin’ hot or cold, and plowing through a work to-do list!
One of the biggest realizations when I have clients start logging food is when they pop their favorite daily Starbucks treat into the ole MyFitnessPal. 😳 It’s the shock and awe of, “I just didn’t know”, or “I didn’t think it was THAT much”. #
Here is the break down of Starbucks top 3 most popular drinks:
☕️ Vanilla Latte: Grande 2% Milk 👉🏼 Cals: 250 Fat: 6g Carbs: 37g Protein: 12g.
☕️ Iced White Chocolate Mocha: Grande 2% milk 👉🏼 Cals: 420 Fat: 20g Carbs: 50g Protein: 11g
☕️ Pumpkin Spice Latte: Grande 2% Milk 👉🏼 Cals: 380 Fat: 14g Carbs: 52g Protein: 14g
Starbucks is just the most universally frequented daily drink stop of many Americans. And recently with my career shift, I find myself in different coffee shops more often myself. This is just something that has been brought up more and more with people I have talked to who want to loose weight, or have plateaued! Digging deeper, asking more questions, I have been discovering that these type of drinks, or frankly just morning coffee with sugar haven’t been logged!
Here is the long and short of it: say Jane Doe comes to me, and says, “it’s bikini season, and I want to slim down”. We start off great, she’s eating healthy food, exercising 3 times a week, and her starting prescription has her eating 1500 cals. This might be pretty close to her caloric maintenance level. What Jane doesn’t tell me is every afternoon she likes to get white girl wasted on her Starbucks Iced White Chocolate Mocha and doesn’t log it, cause it’s liquid, and liquid calories don’t count, right?
Well, her 1500 cals a day just turned into 1920 cals! No bueno when between Janes resting cals and daily activity she only burning 1750cals/day. BOOM 💥 calorie surplus!
Be conscious and honest with what you are putting in your body!
