You know, I could blame the playlist. The tunes have hatched a plot to shoot straight at my heart every time I hit play. And as the air shivers on the tunes, so does my spine.
Because music reminds me of you, every time.
You know, I could blame books. I could go one better and blame the entire library. Shelf after shelf, it unveils itself but the books are never really yours to keep. Things go away, don’t they?
You know, I could blame the rain. How audacious of the rains to fall where you kissed me? With every fresh rainfall, the earth is prettier. And I am standing alone, in the middle of this meadow.
You know, I could blame the girl next door. The way she giggles, and smiles a little at her phone once in a while. Every time she invests a little bit more of herself into another smile at her phone screen, I can see destruction coming her way.
You know, I could blame myself. For entangling our fingers wrong. For bleeding my heart out into the sea and watch it turn red with pain. But instead, I will take a walk.
I will take a walk away from the red, away from the girl next door. I will cover my head with an umbrella and I will keep off of books for a while. And the playlist? I hope it survives without me.
I hope the playlist is dancing to happy tunes.
