A message to my beloved Watershed family. Today was the end of our academic term and my final day teaching.
I had no idea what fortune had been bestowed upon me when I accepted a small part time role that would later double the number of arts classes in our program.
Watershed truly changed the course of my life.
Everyone should spend 4 years there as a student or teacher, or, in my case, both. It transformed my thinking in ways I’ve still yet to quantify. I learned as much or more than I taught. My work at Watershed is a reflection of the deepest parts of my creative soul and an investment in my community. It was hard work, thankless at times, frustrating at times, endless at times... but altogether beautiful and fulfilling. I’ll never regret, but rather treasure, every minute I spent investing in children and learning alongside them.
Thank you to my students for taking the risk of being creative, and sharing your passions with me. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my interns from CU ENVD- some days I literally couldn’t have done my job without your ambition and ideas. Thank you to my colleagues for sharing this important work with me, for your guidance, support, inspiration, and most importantly, for continuing it. To my community and the parents who also make Watershed so special, thank you for sharing your children with me.
