It's a good day for snow adventures! Polk County Conservation staff members and their pups enjoyed a snowy hike at Yellow Banks today! Where will you explore this weekend? #LeadingYouOutdoors
Cold weather has nothing on our elk herds at Jester Park! It also doesnt seem to bother our park users! We love seeing the photos our park and trail users share with us. Thanks for this amazing shot @bryanconley
Have you ever seen a cardinal like this before? Since this bird has dark eyes and not pink eyes, it is not an albino but a leucastic bird. Leucism does not completely eliminate pigment as does albinism. Leucastic animals often have patches of white and normal coloration elsewhere.

Did you know that Pileated Woodpeckers are nearly the size of a crow? The nest holes they make, create crucial shelter to many species including swifts, owls, ducks, bats and pine martens! 📸 Eric Williamson #LeadingYouOutdoors
It's safe to say that the PCC staff loves fall! We walk out of the office and get to see this 😍🍁🍂#LeadingYouOutdoors
"Are they bison or buffalo?" We get this question all of the time. They are bison... calling them buffalo is inaccurate, but a common mistake. The American Bison is native to North & South America & Europe, while the other two buffalo species reside in Africa & Asia. North American bison have a beard, while their Asian relatives don't & American bison can live in really cold places! 📸 Clayton Will #LeadingYouOutdoors
