Last week Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a state of public emergency in St. Parish district which includes Montego Bay—a very popular tourist destination. While we recognize and agree that the murder rate has increased in this area, we find it odd that a state of public emergency was ONLY declared in this parish. The crime and homicide rate has increased throughout the entire island; between January and June of 2017 639 people were murdered throughout the island (averaging 4 murders a day). Jamaica is ranked one of the top most violent countries in the world.
Our question here is why isn’t all of Jamaica under a state of public emergency? Focusing on only one district doesn’t change a thing, these gangs will simply avoid this area and attack elsewhere or, as they’ve already done, they adapt and lay low until they can return. The root of the issue isn’t being addressed and we find the timing as well as the area chosen to be suspicious. 🤔

Not pictured: a city splashed with rainfall and neon, one of the best hugs ever, vanishing waiters, and temporary tattoo talk.
Instead: the water cycle in practice, clarity, and an escape route in the horizon.
There's a lot to look forward to, Spade. Just give it time, love and care. #aceweekends #winter
