Announced today - £13.8 million #NationalLottery
funding set to revive six public parks!
The parks are:
South Cliff Gardens in Scarborough’s South Bay - £4.66m
Castle Park in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire - £1.94m
Sydney Gardens in Bath - £2.74m
Fairhaven Lake and Gardens on the Fylde coast, Lancashire £1.47m
Ellington Park in Ramsgate, Kent - £1.64m
Stevens Park, Dudley - £1.4m
The vital investment will restore at-risk historic features, protect threatened nature and wildlife and significantly boost opportunities for enterprise, communities, health and wellbeing.
This includes the Japanese water pool in Fairhaven Lake and Gardens. The first photo shows the pool during the 1930s, once a cherished part of the park.
It fell into decline and was infilled in the 1980s (second picture). A recent community dig revealed the extent and quality of its remaining features and the water garden will now be returned to its former glory thanks to National Lottery players.
