I made a MAD MEN sweater!!! It’s inspired by the one worn by Megan Draper in 1966 (aka season 5’s “Dark Shadows” episode), except I lengthened the sleeves. If you look closely in the episode, you’ll see it’s just a garter stitch sweater.
When I wrote a blog post five years ago about some of my costume faves from that season, this is the last one I ever thought was possible to make because I didn’t yet know how to knit. Fast forward to 2018: four years in to knitting, I’m chatting about my dream sweater with @kalliopiaa
, who very kindly offered to write pattern instructions for me! We worked on this step by step and then both jumped for joy at @knitatnite
when it actually worked/fit!!!! 😂 I finished it a few weeks ago and can’t begin to express how insanely excited I was to make something I’ve had on my mind for so long. I love this sweater to pieces — my own little bit of 1966 and an unusual inspiration from a show that usually gets us all excited about sewing dresses, tops, etc. Thank you, Kally — you rock!!!!!!
🧶Main color yarn is Warmi by Amano and the contrast is a dark brown worsted (can’t remember the brand) from @annieandco_knits
on the Upper East Side, bought during the 2017 #nycyarncrawl
