to when this dreamy deliciousness was on my table. The past couple of weeks, in order to prepare for being away from home for a couple months, I swore off buying any new food in order to use up what I already had on hand to keep from having to throw away anything when I hit the road this weekend. “Must-go stew” was my mama’s way of using up the mishmash of ingredients and food product in the house before anything spoiled or got tossed. Everything used. Nothing wasted. Two days out from leaving home, and I have two lemons in my fridge (and milk for coffee, of course). I’ll make a nice thermos of lemony tea for the road, and consider my empty fridge a blessing of the greatest kind as every bit of its contents was put to very good use. For now, I’ll recycle an older food picture until I make it to my family, just in time to give thanks for an abundant table, a blessed life, and the privilege of growing up in a home where “just enough to get by” engendered a mindset of gratitude for all that we had been given. And a stubborn refusal to let any of it be put to waste. One week out from Thanksgiving, I hope your hearts are excited about upcoming get-togethers amongst friends and family and plenty of feasting. I hope your gratitude extends to an openness to those around you, and your holiday is a lovely reminder of the joy of the shared table. If you are traveling to see family, safe travels! They must go in the freezer or I’ll be big as a house. .
Made a pie dough video but screwed it up as I was getting calls and editing. Will try to put one up soon. .
You need to be making pie dough and it’s not as hard as you might believe .
It’s just flour, fat, salt and really really cold water. .

invited me over to cook together. This was the first chicken thigh recipe I ever made way back when. I told her about the sense of empowerment I felt after cooking these for the first time, also converting her to the “thigh side”. They’re real hard to eff up and tasty every single time.
