I mean it. Work on it. Not just because the cool kids are doing it - there was an article recently in the Harvard Business Review about the value of creating a Failure Resume and there is even FailCon - a convention where “startups learn from and prepare for failure.”
Having childhood trauma, one of my coping skills was perfectionism, so imperfection wasn’t an option for my psychological system. .
But then the day came when I realized that I couldn’t fully be free or Real if I had to be perfect. And then the dreaded truth appeared before me:
Oh God. FML. The only fucking way to heal perfection is
To. Be. Imperfect. ⚰️
So because I’m an advanced bitch, I practice imperfection like this busted picture I posted of my dog not cooperating, but also when I make an unintentional error, I really try to experience it without any shame or nasty self talk and I can feel my powers of resilience magically GROWING. .
Two weeks ago I spoke in public and I thought I was being funny in large group and crickets 🦗 🦗🦗was the reaction. I bombed. The old me - “see, you shouldn’t try, you’re jokes are dumb, no one thinks your funny, sit down stupid, shut up, why do you even try? You look like a fool, i should quit, I’m never, ever going to veer from the script again.” The new me: aaaaaaah feeeeeel the failure - they didn’t laugh, but you did you bitch and I’m proud of you, the only way to grow is to try and you did it, Brene would be proud of me getting in the arena!!
I don’t know where this is leading, but I know this is it is advanced work that most people aren’t willing to do. But you are. Do you want to be perfect or Real? Do you want to be perfect or Free? Do you want to be perfect or Great?
I’m here to support all of your imperfect endeavors. Love you. ✨💗💗

💪Following on from my last post on the benefits of exercise for healthy ageing, here are some examples of exercises you or your loved ones can try at home to help improve strength and mobility!
1️⃣SQUATS/sit to stands: this is an all time physio favourite, and great for building up the strength in your lower limbs, while also working your dynamic balance! Progress by using some weights (dumbbells, water bottles, cat 😺...). Or REGRESS (if it’s too difficult) by increasing the height of the chair, using some extra cushions or books.
2️⃣Step ups: Unilateral strengthening with further balance training! You have no idea how many people have tripped over from misjudging a step, or not lifting their feet high enough to clear the step...so this will be a great skill to practice 👌
3️⃣Calf Raises: By strengthening your calves, you’ll help to improve your gait (walking). Do this over the edge of a step if you can, if not, just do them on the floor!
4️⃣Lunges: Another great strength and dynamic balance exercise! You may hold onto the back of a chair for balance to start off with if you need.
5️⃣Practice getting up from the floor: I cannot stress how important this is to practice, ESPECIALLY in the vulnerable group of older adults! Suppose you did fall, at home, and no one is around to help you up. You MUST have a strategy to get yourself back up. Check out the video to see one way to do it 👍
🔹roll over to your side. It’s easier if you bend your knees up and let them drop to the side you’re rolling to.
🔹prop up onto elbow
🔹get into a 4 point kneeling position (on all fours)
🔹crawl toward chair/couch and hold onto it.
🔹lift up leg that’s closest to the chair into a lunge position
🔹push through leg, use arms as support, and swivel up onto chair!
It’s never too late to start exercising, and the benefits can have a profound effect on your quality of life as you age! So get active, and encourage the oldies you know to do the same!
