Faraway Horizons stands for the restless adventurer. It signifies the never ending longing for the next horizon that still needs to be discovered. This name reminds us that even when we love the place we currently are, there is still more out there and if you never go, you'll never know what you might have missed. There is a lot to see in this world. Get out there and explore the next @farawayhorizons
is a local legend and college teammate of mine. He is one of the most epic guys you will ever meet, and I mean that in a bad way 🤣 there is never a dull moment, and I had quite a fun time on his podcast No Gradient. We talked about running, my start in ultra marathons, and my cousin Colin who passed away from Neuroblastoma when he was almost 2. Colin was the inspiration for my Pacific Crest Trail run in 2014, and is still dear in my heart. We are also raising money for CancerCare with this post, please see the link in bio and donate. @cancercarepics

While we were hiking thousands of miles away from home we were often asked what we missed.
Aside from the obvious key snack foods, it was always an easy answer. People. We missed our nearest and dearest. Everything else was easy to manage without.
It's easier than you think to live without the things you thought you needed; to carry everything you really need on your back. But people, that's a different matter.
When we thought we would miss out on a group trip for @floobieg
's 30th birthday we realised we had been given the opportunity to fly home and surprise everyone.
Prague is beautiful and we were blessed with fantastic weather. But spending several days with some of the most beautiful people on the planet was one more in a long line of treats. We were lucky enough to be able to look forward to coming home from our adventure. ❤

Truth bomb: When Paul wrote to the church of Galatia, he said, “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” -
How gut wrenching? The people of Galatia were turning away from Christ and focusing on their own intentions. How often do we do that? -
Our society is constantly telling us to follow a certain belief or look a certain way. But why, when we compare ourselves and turn away from Christ, we are not really being His servants. This rugged at my heart strings so bad. We get so caught up in pleasing others that we stray from our Father 💕 cling to Him

PCT Day 112 - 118: Trial by Ice (Part 1 of 2)
The first few weeks enjoyed in Washington were full of sunshine and 75 degree weather days. Swimming at each lake was a must. Hiking through fire alternates proved difficult, the elevation grade was closer to that of hiking through the White Mountains as opposed to the more forgiving PCT gradient I'd grown accustomed to. Arriving in Stehekin Labor Day weekend prompted an accidental zero day waiting for the Post Office to reopen. Needless to be said, the going was slow. Maybe that's how it was able to creep up on me. That 'it' being the first major storm to bring winter's breath to the Pacific Northwest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Leaving Stehekin was yet another fire alternate that took me through the remote spiritual community of Holden - once a mining community and now a Lutheran retreat. The weather report there indicated no rainfall the previous month and the forecast called for similar, clear skies and balmy weather. Leaving Holden I was finally reunited with the PCT. The elevation grade returned to a much more manageable pace, I was graced with BBQ chicken sandwich trail magic, generally things were looking up after many days of hard hiking. Then the skies opened up and the "gray curtain of rain" descended upon Washington.

SCRIBES! 👩💻 Past or present— I would love for you to share your experience as a scribe or your favorite part of the job! There are quite a few of you who have messaged me about scribing 🏥 (what is it? what do you do? how do I get a scribing job? etc.) and I’m so sorry I haven’t responded yet! Let’s connect with each other in the comments! ⚡️
I was an Emergency Department Medical Scribe before becoming a PCT. 🚨 Essentially, you are the physician’s, PA or NP’s assistant for the duration of the shift and you document the entire patient’s chart (history of present illness, review of systems, physical examination, medical decision making) per physician dictation. 👩⚕️👨⚕️ Personally, my favorite part of being a scribe was the thrill of the unknown. I loved that there could be a level 1 trauma, code blue and/or stroke alert at any given moment. The rush is addicting and it’s not a field for those who may be indecisive. This is where my basic understanding of the hospital system came about, in emergency, ♥️ and I highly recommend scribing to anyone looking to get into a clinical setting and gain knowledge of medical terminology.
A long time ago, some of my good friends hiked the PCT. I mailed some disposable cameras to them to take some photos along the way. Almost 10 years later, I found one of the undeveloped rolls of film in a drawer. Here are a few of the highlights.
