Inspired by my latest Insta Story, I’m about to let you in on a BIG secret.
The world doesn’t revolve around you, and nobody really cares if you don’t go to that party. Ok, so it’s not THAT big of a secret, but I believed this for years, especially during college.
I did some quick calculations; let’s say that I went to a party or got hammered twice a week during the school year. Minus the summer and holiday weeks, that is approximately 70 times per year, X 4 years, so 280 times I wanted to make myself be seen or show that I could “hang.” You know how many parties I really did enjoy or remember fondly? Maaaayybe a handful.
It’s completely normal to build up in our minds that every weekend MUST be epic or that we MUST be the life of the party if we want to be accepted or loved. For me, partying was a form of social currency that I believed made me relevant.
If you’re in your recovery journey or even just don’t wanna go out, and you’re putting pressure on yourself that you’ll be missing out and people are just having soOoOo much fun without you, I have some news: it’s nothing deep. Don’t fret. I promise you, you’ll have PLENTY of opportunities to create memories. You’re not alone tonight. ♥️
