Doin the best I can with the tools I have. Some days will always be better than others but I'm working really hard to ensure the harder ones aren't so bad. One nice thing I'm learning as I get older is to appreciate the beauty that's all around me. No matter what's going on, I'm really trying to always see the sun shining through the trees and it's really helping.

👁🗨PERSPECTIVE👁🗨 While at the library today I ran into an old classmate from high school. We were in very different circles throughout our teenage years, I actually think today was the first time we had ever said a word to one another.
Our conversation really made me think about how two people who were born the same year, grew up in the same towns, went to the same schools can have such different lives.
He spoke about his life so openly, about how he dealt drugs in school and continues to do so to this day. He spoke of it so casually and at first I cringed and wanted to shut down the conversation but now reflecting on it now I think drugs and dealing are his normal, he probably grew up surrounded by them while I grew up thinking that they were bad and illegal and dangerous, and although I still think this way, it isn’t my right to tell him the way he thinks about them is wrong.
But his drug dealing isn’t the only thing that makes him who he is, I don’t believe he is a bad person. During the day he volunteers at the SPCA and at the local library. He was so kind and genuinely interested in what I had to say and he is also a Dad. He spoke to me about how he carries around weights in his pockets and in his backpack so when he takes it off, he can “truely feel weightless and free like a feather”. He told me about his dancing and rapping and how it is a way for him to communicate the things he can’t do in any other way.
He has experienced things I never have and probably never will. He has lived a completely different life than I have and I don’t think either of us have lived life wrong. We are both parents, and I’m sure we parent differently but neither of us will be doing that wrong either.
This chance encounter has reminded me how easy it is to put a label on someone, how easy it is to see someone living life differently to you and immediately decide it’s wrong and that’s more of a reflection on yourself as an individual than on that person you are judging and their choices. So today was definitely a bit of a reality check be more open minded and accepting to things that are different and people who make different choices to those that you make.

It’s our choice. If life is hectic or complex it’s because we made it that way. Our decisions, our choices. And perhaps ‘hectic’ and ‘complex’ are just perspective issues. Your life could just be blessed. I know mine is. That doesn’t mean it’s easy. But greatness never came easy to any who has achieved it. Push yourself, remember your why- it’s ok if it changes: we evolve on our journey, and work hard.

Should you modify a client’s training program according to her menstrual cycle?

Should women train differently depending on their cycle? If your client is taking oral contraception, no. If they’re not, we don’t know. To date there is a lot of conflicting evidence and no consensus on whether women should train differently at different times of their cycle.

So, in the face of unclear research, what are you to do?

Research is based on averages, and every woman is different. You will likely come across clients who suffer from premenstrual syndrome or other symptoms related to the menstrual cycle that affect how they are feeling, and you should modify their training based on these fluctuations.

However, this is no different from other stresses like lacking sleep, getting a cold, or simply feeling less motivated to train that day. Tracking their cycle and specific symptoms may help your clients predict how they will feel and how to modify their training, but there are no universally-prescribed changes for all women.

Being present is one of my biggest challenges. I caught myself ruminating about a work situation as I read to my daughter only to be snapped out of it by her belting out her ABCs. I realized then my mind had wondered and began to focus on her, her mouth, the letters that still have that baby flair to them and the pride in her face when she completed it and gave herself applause. I asked her if she was proud of herself and she said “Yes, I am”. I’m so glad I could bring my mind back to focus on something so important and that I’ll have, in this way, for a limited time. My girls have given me more of those moments. I am grateful for them and how they have given me such wealth and perspective. ❤️👩👧👧💜

"Hear me now, listen to me later!"( In Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice) When faced with a challenge or adversity, it's really easy to allow the little voices in our heads to take over and start the negative monkey brain chatter. Just know that right next to that little "creature" is the other "creature" that knows the answer or the solution to the situation. Call it whatever makes sense to you, but "the mind" made of these helpful and not so helpful parts can and will have different perspectives. Yes, I realize a hard core scientist would say these elements do not exist. Got it. But, it helps to explain and makes sense as to why we play small and hold oursleves back. A learning aid, if I may. Working recently on a project, for example, I finally got irritated with myself for procrastinating and just got into action knowing that I would figure it out. I was procrastinating because I was unsure and didn't have all the info. WARNING: We will never have "all the info." To shoot for that will result in perpetual inaction and stress. You already know all the info right now inside your head. Hypnosis helps our clients connect with the part of them that already knows all. A foreign language test anxiety client recently struggled with accessing his studied knowledge. He needed to learn "more". At first, he was tight and couldn't "see" clearly or access his knowledge easily. Through our sessions he began to remain in a "state" of conviction and calm which allowed him to access all the knowledge, verb conjugations, and nuances of this language which he already had stuffed into his brain. This same thing happens when we exercise or walk in nature. We are inspired and have "ideas". WARNING: Write these ideas down immediately, for they will be lost if you wait. Our inner creative comes out. Share when you had that inner creative shine and discovered the answer inside yourself the entire time.
