Night at the anchor at Kilimareon Bay, west end of Russell Islands (Solomon Islands), Alarm set for 3.50am, we head west towards the famous Western Province.
On the way we find a small cliffy island called Mborokua, with a shape similar to Australia.
It seems to have a narrow bay surrounded by high cliffs where we could anchor right where Adelaide would be on the map of Australia, in its south.
Not easy to choose the right spot where to drop the anchor. Everywhere we try is either too deep or too close to the rocks. We finally
drop it, and jump into the water with flippers, spear gun and mask.
Two minutes and we see a small sized White Tipped Shark, this place is special.
The underwater cliffs are impressive, we realize the bottom is so steep that if the boat drifted and reached the rocks, the keel won't even touch the bottom!
After 20 minutes snorkeling we see a grouper, my favourite fish to cook! He s aprox half a meter long, looks at me while hiding between two rocks, it won t be an easy target...
Then I see another grouper, much bigger one...this one is more than a meter, I remember I used to clean, portion and cook similar ones, this would weigh 20kgs... I go above the surface looking for my friends to ask them to come and see, while I hear Francesco s voice screaming from the boat "Crocodile! Crocodile!"
My mind stops... I get close to the rocks, inform Sylvain about it, we both reach the rocks, ask the guys to pick us up with the dinghy and wait...
Much worse luck for Steve, who has been attacked by a Crocodile on his shoulder!!
Bye Bye Mborokua, let s get out of here!! We ll have grouper for breakfast another time!
