On Sunday, September 9 1739, Jemmy gathered 22 enslaved Africans near the Stono River & began marching down the roadway yelling "#liberty ". The rebels were joined by 40 to 60 more, some unreluctantly, during their 15-mile march. They burned six plantations and killed 23–28 whites along the way & spared others. The rebellion ended when a heavily armed militia caught the rebels, killing at least 54 of them. Most who escaped were captured and executed; any forced to join the rebels were released. While the slaves lost, they killed proportionately more whites than was the case in later rebellions. In response to the rebellion, the South Carolina legislature passed the #NegroActof1740 , which restricted slave assembly, education, and movement. The Stono River Rebellion is a tribute to the ongoing, determined resistance of African-Americans to the oppressive system of #slavery . #Repost @rhymbuk

Please be a responsible tourist! If you see chains, cages, whips or bullhooks these are all sure signs the animal is merely for profit and is being terribly abused. DO NOT SUPPORT THOSE TYPES OF BUSINESSES! Repost @petauk Please send an appeal to the Mayor of Santorini and the #Greek Minister of #Tourism asking them to end cruel donkey rides on Santorini. Authorities appear to be looking the other way, ignoring the suffering of the donkeys and #mules and silently tolerating apparent breaches of animal-welfare laws. This cruel "tradition" needs to end. https://secure.peta.org.uk/page/29995/action/1?utm_source=PETA #dontridedonkeys #santorini #Repost @jay_nicole_83#tourist #travelling #holiday #metoo #slavery #donkey #depression #loveisland
Nothing can measure the strength of the African & Latin Americans who were taken from their lands who endured life in the dungeons, the torture of it all, the boat ride over, the life they experienced after arrival, the prejudiced struggle after a false freedom. Then to actually MAKE IT BACK THERE?!?! It was amazing. They never imagined we would ever walk back through those doors with our head up. But you can measure the strength of the African & Latin Americans. • • #accra #ghana #west #africa #the #door #of #no #return #slavery #enslaved #to #america #but #we #made #it #back
I don't support apc or pdp but in this video Dino made Keyamo looked like the fool he is. I don't understand how Keyamo can be a SAN. Anyway SAN has been rightly interpreted as SENIOR ADVOCATE OF NONSENSE. Keyamo is 100% nonsense. I did not pay him any attention until he started to show his sign board head on tv. His reasoning is worse than that of a person who has no education. Hos education is a waste to his family and community. People like Keyamo should never be allowed to hold public offices. Just like Oshiomhole, Keyamo is a danger in public offices. #Nigeria #Naija #freedom over #slavery

#whitewomen back in those days went through more #blackmen and #blackboys than the #kardashians .... we need to remember these women for the evil and racist #thots they were ... #blackmen in particular, so quick to bring up #whitemen as the worst during #slavery and #jimcrow because a lotta em just highkey wanna sleep with #whitewomen and view them in a greater light than they should (being with one ain't problematic, downplaying their role in your subjugation everywhere IS) ... we cannot properly do #blackhistorymonth or discuss #blackhistory without making sure we understand White girls were just as bad to Africans as White boys ... they were particularly savage to #blackwomen #blackgirls and #blackbabies ... they can no longer own us as #slaves but they must ALL take that L because few did little to stop this Credit @kingtaharkaanderson Glory #ADOS (american descendants of slavery) is time we make sure they made whole through #reparations and other specific reforms, grants, etc. targeting JUST THEM (none of us who not that like me deserve that like these people fought for rights for #asians , #latinx , #africans , lgbtq, #women , and the #middleclass and #lowerclass and every turn was betrayed... it is their turn now to see some shit and if not #governmentshutdown and we will be targeting certain useless #politicians ) #Tangibles2020 https://slate.com/human-interest/2019/02/women-slavery-history-south-book-review.html

Everybody desires freedom , financially ,socially, physically etecetra...some choose security that is JOB SECURITY, which I think FINANCIAL FREEDOM is to be desired above that. The training of our minds thus acquiring a good MINDSET is very core when it comes to slavery and so believing what people think about you The great book said “As a man thinketh so is He, it all starts with you. For you to be a successful person, in all aspects of your life it starts by disciplining your thoughts “mindset” Think big, be realistic, be proactive, treasure your time , don’t STOP you are only one “S” to the Top #discipline #slavery #thoughtoftheday #greatminds #successquotes #successmindset #freedom #financialfreedom

Susie King Taylor, born on Augst 6, 1848 in Liberty County, Georgia, spent her childhood as a slave. She learned how to read and write in secret by attending two secret schools. During the Civil War, Taylor taught former slaves and free Blacks. She also learned nursing and served the 33rd Regiment of the US Colored Troops for over three years. Taylor would later go on to write a book about her life, which also touched on her experiences as a Black nurse during the Civil War. This book was entitled Reminiscences of My Life in Camp. #blackhistoryfacts #blackhistorymonth #k3mistryproductions #blackhistory #share #promote #repost #blackgirlmagic #blackgirlsrock #carefreeblackgirl #civilwar #nurse #nursing #slave #slavery
A portrait of Yarrow Mamout(Muhammad Yaro) by Charles Wilson Peale painted circa 1819. Mamout was born in Guinea, west Africa, in 1736. At the age of 16 Mamout was taken from his home and forced into a life of slavery. Mamout would endure 45 years in bondage before finally winning his freedom. At the time this portrait was painted Mamout could read and write Arabic was a property owner in Washington D.C. owned stock in a bank and proudly practiced his Islamic faith. 200 years later his incredible story and positive expression continue to inspire. @philamuseum
The South Side Newspaper Project partnered with the community paper in Grahamstown, South Africa — Grocott’s Mail — for a journalistic exchange series – Your Town, Our Town after a team of college and high school students traveled to the continent over winter break as part of a special cultural and journalism exchange. Each paper has continued to exchange stories in an effort to unify, educate and enlighten both communities. Last July after The Stand held its annual Photo Walk, the staff at Grocott’s Mail offered its own photography training and walk for local youth. The majority of youth participating in the Grahamstown walk did not have cellphones but were loaned four tablets by Rhodes School of Journalism and Media Studies to share on the walk. The goal of each Photo Walk is to empower residents to take control of the way their community is represented. View such stories from two different parts of the world at the "No Innocence at this side of the womb" Symposium on 28th February at Newhouse School of Public Communications. #SyracusetoSouthAfrica #HumanRights #Equality #Justice #Slavery #Apartheid #Colonialism #Awareness #Syracuse #SU #SyracuseUniversity #TheSouthSideStand #GrocottsMail #YourTownOurTown 📷 Jenn Grzyvinsky, Kathryn Cleary, Jeff Perkins
Always thought that question or statement of “love of country” as being odd. I know ppl say it all the time and if you provide a diff response than expected you’re somehow unpatriotic, which i say bullshit. Let’s see, as an African American i served in the military for 4yrs, I pay taxes, I #vote , I practice civic engagement and encourage others to as well as much I can and I fight against the system that continues to perpetuate inequality and injustices especially in marginalized communities. 🛑. Then I research and read the #history of this country from #slavery to #civilwar to #jimcrow to #trump ( stretch u say?disagree, he’s an effect not the cause) and everything in between and then you ask me if “I love this country?” If there was ever a time for a reexamination of the #constitution and legacies left behind being felt today, it is now. Looking forward to @banapodcast March 1st @Civic hall http://bit.ly/BANApodcast #newyorkcity #bethechange
