After going through some of the GoPro videos I took over the weekend, I know I’m going to be dreaming of the Sol Duc tonight 🌙 •

Super nice steelhead on the jig in fall! This weather needs to clear so I can get back out there. Too much snow/ice and sub zero temps!!! 🤦🏼♂️
Solid buck slammed one of my new polar UV jigs!
So it turns out soft rods, heavy gear, and high flows are a very bad combination. After almost two days of fishing, I landed my second ever OP winter steelhead, followed shortly by my third. All it took was switching to a stiffer rod, and BOOM! Fish on. •
I love fishing in snow storms! I hit the river as winter storm Harper was dumping snow all over Northeast Ohio. This was the first heavy snowfall to hit my area this Winter and I just had to be outside for it. It was awesome to pretty much have the whole stream all to myself while enjoying the beauty of the snow and the fight of some eager steelheads.

It took two intoxicated fisher people to land this buck. The drunken assist fish was the last steelhead I got to touch.... I hope the next is a little brighter 🥳 •

gives some great advise for winter fishing. “Hey guys! With the cold temperatures coming up, frozen guides are going to be a problem. I’m going to share the process that I use (when I actually give myself the time to do it). I start by cleaning the guides on my rod with a rag and dish soap. Bob Hunter recently taught me how much this helps. On days where I know it’s not going to be extremely cold, I can usually get away with just doing this.
If I think it’s going to be even more of a problem, I’ll put Loon Stanley’s Ice off Paste on my guides. This really helps, it will usually wear off by the end of the day though.
Last, and what I believe is most important, I always treat my mono with a line floatent. This makes it easier to mend your line yes, but I think it also helps shed water off of your line before it can reach your guides. The more water you can keep from sticking to your line, and making it to your guides, the less ice you will have to deal with.
Realistically it only takes about a half an hour to do the entire process from start to finish, and it really does help on cold days!” Stay warm this weekend!!!

There isn’t much that’s better than a nice fresh #browntrout
right off of Lake Ontario in the fall. This same day I caught my very first Brown, and very first #chinooksalmon
. I also pulled in a nice #steelhead
and a yellow bullhead catfish. Of course caught and released for another day.
