This week marks the end of the second round of community engagement in Stanhope where we’ve been working on their place-based plan.
The four of us travelled over for the Stanhope v. Dookie footy match (which the boys won!) to talk about the communities vision for the future.

What a lovely morning yesterday. We brought together a group of people diagnosed under 50 with bowel cancer to discuss the strategy and direction of our #never2young
The campaign was launched 6.5 years ago and we've had considerable success with it - including changing national policy guidance and building awareness and support but we are far from done.
There are still too many people being told they are too young for bowel cancer and then diagnosed when the disease is advanced. Too many younger people still feel alone and are struggling to get the personalised treatment and care they need.
This must change. We must do better. So @bowelcanceruk
are fully committed to continuing to drive positive change for younger people.
Our next step will be a survey which will be issued soon to hear more about people's experiences now - and then we will pin down our strategy and recommendations. This is too important to get wrong.
There are some basic business terms like PRICE, PROFIT and CUSTOMER LOYALTY that some of us have gotten so used to that we have forgotten the nuances associated with them and how proper mastery of the nuances is what has helped big firms to become what they are today. Sometimes, mastering those nuances may happen by an accident of some good random behaviour and not by academic study, as could be the case of a very skilled business man in Onitsha who never took any business course. Yet the fact remains that many of us have a wrong approach to business because we have a misunderstanding of these basic concepts. Let's begin with profit. .
What is profit ? Profit is NOT a surplus free money you get by out smarting your customers, after subtracting your cost of production. Many people who see it as a surplus free money resulting from out smarting their customers soon run into a dead end and discover that "you can fool some people sometimes, but you can't fool all the people all the time". Then the question is, how do you maximize profit and maintain your bottomline? The answer is in creating SUPERIOR VALUE. Instead of looking for ways to out smart your customers, you should be busy looking for ways to raise the value you are creating and the satisfaction your customers are deriving without increasing your cost of production. Then communicate to your customers that the increased value created is worth an increased price. That is how to make REAL PROFIT and not end up being considered as a scam.
This brings us back to customer loyalty. You are not entitled to loyalty, you must earn it. Loyalty is a two way street. When your brand exhibits integrity by fulfilling it's brand promise and not posing as a scam, you will earn the loyalty of your customers. I also find this principle to be true in other aspects of life. Human nature is the same both in business, family, politics, e.t.c. There are basic similarities when it comes to winning people and earning their trust. You are never entitled to it, even if you are the one feeding them and taking care of every aspect of their life. .

Personally, I have just returned. It is truly outstanding the clarity you can gain when you take yourself out of your normal every day. If you are feeling stuck or stretched perhaps even demotivated, get yourself out of your everyday. It might not be a winter getaway on a tropical island. It can be as simple as throwing on the headphones and taking the laptop to your favourite cafe with a view to get shit done. Mix it up. It's awesome what it can do for you.
