It’s good to make some local images. It only takes 15 minutes to get into Manhattan so that’s usually my default, with it’s guaranteed chaos and characters and events and variety and vibrance.
Jersey City has that too, just less. It takes a little more work as a street photographer. Slower, more spread out, with it’s own character, it’s own issues, it’s own art. Not as cool as Brooklyn but it doesn’t care. It still feels genuine to me, even though gentrified in many areas. But then I didn’t know it until 2 years ago, and still only know small sections. I’m grateful for the chance to call it home.
