He escuchado no sé cuántas veces que si practicase otro deporte perdería peso más rápidamente, que no me pondría tan grande o que si seguía así perdería feminidad. Pero yo me pregunto, ¿en referencia a qué? Y la respuesta es clara; a cánones de belleza de mierda que tanto y tanto daño me han llegado a hacer. Sonará al típico discurso demagogo, pero el problema de los cánones sigue estando a la orden del día, y es muy triste que por ello gente deje de hacer cosas que realmente le llenen. Crossfit, hace ya más de una año y medio, hizo que me replanteara dejar de fumar, y ha sido un factor importantísimo durante todo el proceso. También me ha ayudado mucho a gestionar la ansiedad, y la posibilidad de poder ver el progreso y la superación personal que ofrece este deporte no ha parado de aumentar mi autoestima hasta el día de hoy. Y ya por no hablar de toda la gente maravillosa que ha traído a mi vida. Estoy pletórica, sana, fuerte. Entreno duro y cuido mi alimentación todo lo que puedo. Tengo mucho que mejorar, por supuesto, pero la diferencia es que ahora voy disfrutando el camino. Y es que ese debería ser el puñetero canon de cánones, el hacer cosas que te hagan sentir feliz y bien contigo mismo. Start to incorporate leg raises, knee tucks, deadbugs, Russian twists, side planks (the list goes on...) and ditch those sit ups! - - - • Try to stop from swinging - have a step or something underneath you to tap between each rep which will help you control the swing • Think about tucking the hips underneath to make even harder 💪🏻 • Leg raises - keep that lower back into the floor. Everything I have been through ...I have been through for a reason. Now I realise my greater purpose … to share what I have been through so other women KNOW there is light at the end of the shit tunnel, and that no matter how shitty life can get there is always a lesson to be a learned and silver lining to be found. Here are a few of the shitty things I have been through in my life and what I have learned…⠀ ⠀ The death of my paternal grandfather during my final year of uni. A man I admired and loved completely but never told. I didn’t deal with it at all instead repressed emotion led me to shitty point number 2 …⠀ ⠀ Having a complete nervous breakdown resulting in extreme anxiety, daily panic attacks, mild agoraphobia and deep depression for OVER a year. I knew that if Dan and I could get through this super dark, super shitty period we could get through anything together … and we did. All that shit had given our love the deepest roots possible… till death us do part, just like we promised.⠀ ⠀ And there lies the biggest struggle I have faced to date … the death of the love of my life. The father of my kids, my partner in crime, the man who accepted me for who I was and loved every atom of my being. My heart was shattered into tiny pieces the day I kissed your cooling head for the final time, but I have been lucky. I have my family who have driven thousands of miles in the past few months to be there for me and the kids … and the kids who have been the sellotape that has held all the pieces of my broken heart together ever since. If you are reading this, cursing me for the tears I bring to your eyes or for reminding you of your own struggles in life, remember this one thing … you are NOT alone. We have all gone through shit. Some of us are still going through shit. And we all will no doubt go through more shit before our time is up this time round. I’m putting this out there “ I’m in the best shape I’ve been my whole life” (okay maybe not my boobs after 3 kids 😳 )  but probably even better than my wedding day. When I say my best shape I’m not talking numbers or visuals, I’m talking mentally and how I feel physically. I have many clients and friends who feel they can use age as an excuse, not because they aren’t fit or don’t want to get fit but because I think sometimes society writes you off after 35. If you are constantly being told that you go downhill after 35 you might just start to think it’s okay to let the " middle aged spread “ take hold.  If you are believe its harder to lose weight or maintain your fitness levels you might just not bother.  However, I believe it’s never to late. In my 40’s , i’m the strongest I've been ,I’ve had a baby, established a new career,  beaten all my PB’s and feel that life has just started to write a new chapter. If we focus on the weight side: no matter what your age, you need to eat fewer calories than you burn to lose weight (NOT CUT THEM OUT) . However, since your metabolism "generally" slows down as you get older, your calorie needs change, and the calorie intake that prompted weight loss in your 20s might not work after age 35.  BUT this isn’t to say go a calorie restricted diet, you just need to think about food choices, alcohol intake and exercise. "Alcohol raises your oestrogen and cortisol (also known as the 'stress hormone') levels, and slows down metabolism by up to 70%. The decrease in metabolism is temporary, but if you're drinking every night, the habit can pack on the pounds, especially at the waist. You can at plus 40 take control and make positive changes if you want to. You can get yourself out of the rut and feel young and energised. I PROMISE. Whilst I appreciate scientific evidence says its harder , and maybe it is,  you just need to work harder to achieve your goals.  It’s not just about weight loss ,or maintenance but its also about mental gains.There are some yummy plus 40’s out there, stop and think today.
