Then come back and reach out to a friend. Invite them over or make plans. Write a letter to someone you love and tell them how much better they make the world. Make more eye contact. Say hello and smile at a stranger.
I’m putting this here as much for myself as for anyone else who needs it. Whenever I feel down or stuck or closed off, this two step process ALWAYS makes me feel better.
Step one, commune with nature. Seriously. In whatever way you feel most comfortable with. Dive into deep woods for days or sit on a city park bench for 5 minutes.
Step two, engage with other humans. Reach out, be present, seek to connect.
Look, I know YOU already know these things will leave you feeling happy and light. But knowing isn’t enough. It’s all about the practices we actually ACT on, but it’s hard to take action without the systems, habits, and accountability we need to get it in gear.
