The Nee York Islanders have defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the season series. The Islanders would go up 2-0 early in the second period before the Avalanche would respond on the power play. The Islanders would yield no more, and score two more goals to secure the victory. Jordan Eberle and Anders Lee would each have a goal and an assist, while Roman Pulock would have two assists for the Islanders. Thomas Greiss would make 30 saves for New York, while Semyon Varlamov would make 17 saves for Colorado. This is an impressive victory for the Islanders, as the Avalanche are usually superb at home. For Colorado, this just adds to their recent slide in which they have lost four of their last five games.
Starting things off with Brayden Point -
Early in Brayden’s career, it was obvious that he was deemed to be the future of the NHL, easily the #1
overall pick. Unfortunately, Brayden went undrafted, when, fortunate for him, the Tampa Bay Lightning was in desperate need of a towel boy, and scooped up Point in a matter of seconds. Instead of putting pucks in the net and skating circles around his defenders like he thought he would be, he’s too busy wiping off the sweat from Stamkos’s head in between periods and filling water bottles for the team. It’s a shame to see his talents go to waste. What could’ve been...

The Boston Bruins have shutout the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the season series. Boston would score early in the first period and would add one in the second and secure the victory with two more in the third period. Colby Cave would score his first career NHL goal, while David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy would each have two assists. Jaroslav Halak would stop all 22 shots for Boston, while Carey Price would save 31 of 35 for Montreal. This is a huge win for Boston, as it always is when you blow out your rival on the road. For the Canadiens, this is a bad loss to end a home stand in which they scored 11 goals in two games.
The Anaheim Ducks have defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the season series. The Penguins would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Anaheim would explode with three goals in the second period and add one in the third to secure the victory. Adam Henrique and Ryan Getzlaf would each have a goal and an assist for Anaheim. John Gibson would make 28 saves on 30 shots for the Ducks, while Casey DeSmith stopped 32 of 35 for the Penguins. For the Ducks, this is a good win as they push closer to Calgary for first in the division. For the Penguins, this is the third game in a row in which they blew a lead and this time it ends in a loss. They continue to be incredibly inconsistent.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have shutout the Vegas Golden Knights 1-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the season series. Nick Foligno would score the only goal of the game 40 seconds into the third period to get the victory for Columbus. Sergei Bobrovsky would make 28 saves for his first shutout of the season. Malcom Subban would make 30 saves on 31 shots for Vegas.
This is my shirt now momma. I claim. No take backs.
Stars defensemen John Klingberg will return to the Stars lineup either this Thursday vs the Chicago Blackhawks or this Saturday @ the Minnesota Wild. Klingberg had missed the last month with a hand injury. This return is huge for the Stars, as he provides a good balance of offense and defense and has skills on the breakout that the Stars have missed the last couple games.
Five game to kick off the week, who’s picking up the victories tonight?🤔🚨
Wild defensemen Matt Dumba will miss the next week with an upper body injury. He is tied with Eric Stall for fourth on the team in points with 22 points in 32 games. Though it’s only a week, it’s a decent blow to the Wild’s defensive unit. He’s on the ice about 23:22 a game, and that’s hard to replace. It’s especially tough when the Wild play the Sharks, Penguins, and Stars this week. The Sharks and Penguins currently rank inside the top ten in goals for per game.
Devils goaltender Cory Schneider is back on Injured reserve with an abdominal strain. He is still winless with a 0-5-1 record and has posted a 4.29 goals against average this season. Mackenzie Blackwood has been recalled from the AHL. This isn’t a huge hit to the Devils as Kinkaid has solidified himself as the starter. But for Schneider, this is another injury added to a long list of career injuries. Add in top of that his recent play, you wonder how much longer he has left to play.

The Philadelphia Flyers have called up goaltender Carter Hart from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. This is partially due to the Anthony Stolarz injury, who was placed on Injured reserve and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Carter Hart is the Flyers hopeful goaltender of the future, and now he has a chance to possibly show some of that and maybe bring hope to a fan base that has seen a lot of goals scored on them this season.
The Lightning pick up a point, but couldn’t hold off the Winnipeg Jets in Overtime as they lose it 5-4. It was very fast paced, back and forth, evenly matched game between these two teams. Alex Killorn, Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson, and Nikita Kucherov recorded the goals for the Bolts. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 37 saves on 42 Jets shots. The boys look to bounce back on Tuesday as they head to Vancouver to take on the Canucks.
