Closing weekend of “What the Body Can Do: Open Sessions 11” on view in our Lab gallery through this Sun, Nov 19. Wed-Sun 12-6pm | Thurs 12-8pm
Hồng-An Trương uses photography, sound, video, and performance to examine histories of war, and immigrant and refugee narratives. Her interdisciplinary projects are premised on the concept that aesthetic battles are both political and ideological. In 1973, three young Asian American activists recorded "A Grain of Sand: Music for the Struggle by Asians in America," an album of folk songs that told stories about immigrant workers and solidarity with African American and Latin American freedom movements. Using the liner notes from "A Grain of Sand" as a starting point, this installation traces the revolutionary idealism marked by the album to claim a historical presence in today’s fraught racial climate.
