First time taking trains in England. 🏴 🚂
I stayed in a hotel which is within 10 minute walking distance away from King's Cross station. The train from King's Cross to Cambridge is twice the price of the train departing from Liverpool Street, and it takes about the same time to get to Cambridge, so I decided to take the tube to Liverpool Street for the train.
There are many lines going through both King's Cross and Liverpool Street, and I probably was not fully awake in the morning, I took the line that didn't stop at Liverpool Street. I got there with still plenty of time left anyway, went to Boots to shop. The worst is yet to come. They announced the train to Cambridge is cancelled. I wanted to believe my English is not good enough and ignore it, so I didn't rush. I went back to the schedule board and found the train to Cambridge IS cancelled. I had a lot in my mind and I started to think what I could do for the day if I couldn't make it to Cambridge.
Standard procedure is to check for refund, alternatives with the staff or the tickets go down the drain. Turned out I can go to King's Cross to take ANY train that goes to Cambridge, so I went back to King's Cross, and I spent the day in Cambridge as planned.
The story taught me the public transportation can pull a prank on you in a worst possible way. 😰
