I’m still processing how intense the visit of the Casa Azul was, it’s gonna take me a bit to put this into words. I can relate to Frida on so many aspects, I was not expecting the visit of her house to be such a spiritual experience. Also the fact that I was in pain more than I’ve been in over 6 months definitelly adds up to it. It’s something I’ll never forget. 💙💙💙#vivafrida
SLIDESHOW Remember, my Instagram is also about educating. 😁So if you are wondering 🤔 how much $500 pesos is equals to, right now the exchange rate is $17 pesos to 1 dollar. So it equals 29 dollars & .41 cents I am sure there is an app out there to cheat your way to working this out. I’m just ole school. One side of the bill you can see Frida’s art 🎨 & Diego’s on the other side.
As a kid I read about Frida Kahlo and honestly the only thing I remembered was the horrible accident which prevented her from having children & the pain she went through, along with her beautiful & yet sometimes painful 😣 images, in her art. Her husband was a well known artist in his life time. Many people associate Diego Rivera with art that depicts calla lilies & communist images. ( I need to start posting his art which my cousin & her husband reproduce).
In recent times Frida 💐 has become more known. I watched the movie 🎥 Frida a few years back & although I enjoyed it, Diego Rivera 🐷 just annoys me. It is definitely not a movie to be seen with kids. And I understand, in the recent movie, Coco there is a Frida. 💐 I have yet to watch it but I gave my aunt the book 📖 so she could reproduce some images in sculpture or at least be inspired by it. I also have been told there are children’s books 📚 on her. Children recognize her when they see the art pieces I sell. Kids seem to know more about Frida than adults, especially when it is about the Day of the Dead 💀
In the past few years Frida is a well recognized artist, one who might not have been well known in her time but who now is being celebrated VIVA FRIDA!!!!😁 👏🏼👏🏼🌸
Last of our book order came in and it is a winner with my horde! Despite ShortStop being older than its target audience, we felt this book needed to grace our shelves for its art and simple story composition. @yuyimorales book #vivafrida is a delight that inspired ShortStop to sketch and compose her toys into scenes imagined, kidnapping my iPad to take pictures.😁
Something I’ve discovered; books about Hispanic/Mexican-American women written for older children are hard to find😔. Books about African American women are much easier to come by (now) thus our home library is filling more to one side of my children’s culture than the other. I depend on cross cultural reads about individuals and the gems about women who overcome hurdles in their lives to bring fulfillment to their own lives and that of their communities. I am happy to say those are starting to become less of a wild hunt in finding them. I hope this continues.
My 3rd Grader's Teacher is from Mexico. She loves Frida Kahlo. She is one of my favorite artists, EVER. I took great pride in making this card and little arrangement for her. She has been such a wonderful influence in my son's life this year. We are so blessed that he was placed in her class. #VivaFrida#Frida#FridaKahlo#LoveOfArt#ValentinesFlowers#TeacherGifts
It’s been on my list of places I need to see in my lifetime for as long as I can remember and this evening in the most perfect golden hour light, I made that dream come true. I cried in her studio. #mexicocity#museofridakahlo#vivafrida
