Using a block to elevate the foot is a great tool to help create space when easing into Birds of Paradise. This pose requires your shoulders to be open and very warm for success! You could also try using a strap between your hands to create the bind. Your yoga strap and block are your best friends when working towards these more difficult postures 🙌🏽💪🏽💜

We all go through phases in life ☾ it is not always possible to be emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually balanced and prime all the time. And it’s ok to not be okay - you’ll find your way, it took me a while but I found mine.

I had this realization while driving today. Whether you believe in God or evolution- how amazing is it that more often than not, we are literally given all our bodies need through the food that we eat? Of course there are exceptions, and I don’t mean to make light of any conditions that require lifesaving medications. However, as chronic illness is at an all-time high, I find it pretty incredible that so often the answer can be found in getting back to the basics.
I’ve done a lot of diets in my time, not so much for fat loss but for management of symptoms. The migraine diet, the interstitial diet (both very similar – anti-inflammatory in nature), Whole30, paleo. I’ve often found myself frustrated and thinking, “why isn’t there one answer?! Which one is best?!” Well I’ll tell you that the answer is not one-size-fits-all, yet it’s pretty fricken cool that we’re given all these options for different body chemistries, and to help with different ailments. Certain foods can literally starve out bacteria in the gut. Running on ketones instead of carbohydrates can serve to protect the brain, and can help with conditions such as migraines and seizures. How cool is that?!?!
I hesitated whether to post about this because I know it’s not always so easy to have access to these types of foods. Aside from the everyday difficulties- time, money, etc.- there’s bigger struggles like food deserts. These are real concerns and I don’t mean to minimize these issues. However, as I’m looking ahead to a long road of detoxing and sometimes find myself wishing that road was filled with beer and ice cream, I find myself appreciating the fact that food is literally medicine. Happy Tuesday y’all. Treat yourself to an apple and think of the crazy lady that’s currently marveling in its beauty. 🍎✌🏻
